Bubbles in paint

I noticed one side of my wall is badly damaged. There's bubbles of various sizes all up the wall. I light a candle there. When I blow the candle out the smoke rises up where the wall is damaged. Could the candle be the cause of this?

It was a bloody leak that caused the damage.
