Taoiseach Micheal Martin tests positive for Covid

He was shown on the news last night bet into a crowd with nobody wearing a mask. Hardly surprising.

He should practice what he preaches and wear a mask when in a crowded setting.

I'm actually surprised he let his gard down, this literally meant everything to him , I know masks don't stop the spread but do offer some protection. I think he just got caught up in the excitement of it all , he didn't even get to pick up , some obscure makey uppy leadership award , no one's ever heard of.

I'm wondering what Leo, makes of it all (actually, I know exactly what he's thinking , 🤭🤭😏)

He was only in twickenham last weekend, and they dont give a fiddlers about masks over there.

most likely that he picked up his infection there as it takes 3 days or so to show up.

i think this government have lost the run of themselves especially introducing a bank holiday on the 18March.

this will lead to a major increase in COVID.

The pandemic is not over but the Irish government act as of the pandemic is a thing of the past.

I love all the bull$hit speculation on the thread when the actual story is easily available online. He didn't "pick it up at the rugby", it wasn't because "he didn't wear a mask" (masks protect others from you, not the other way around) nor did "the Americans force him to take a test prior to meeting the president".

One of the delegation had covid, thus they all got tested. The initial test came back negative, but a second came back positive.

As for his guidance on masks, it is good advice and is based on the numbers game. As for him wearing a mask in London or Washington, they are both diplomatic missions - "when in Rome" etc. If your host is wearing a mask, you wear one. If they are not, you don't.

What can you say only "Get well soon".

He is fully vaccinated and in good general health so hopefully it won't take too much out of him.
