Unfortunately the last thread with this title was shut down within 10mins as the op didn't give an opinion. (Eventhough you can deduce everything from the title) Anyhows...

This is a thread for those of a positive outlook towards the majority of green party policies. Not an echo chamber of "sandal wearing loonies" but rather not an echo chamber of green bashers. That said some constructive criticism towards green policies is more than welcome.

I'll kick things off.

Green party policy number 1: A marked increase (up to 10k hectares p.a.) in forestry planting and of that, a marked increase in broadleafs and indigenous species. This would benefit economically (less imports of wood, processing jobs, byproducts etc) but also socially for recreation and leisure, and of course for habitat for species already under pressure. Also of course helping us to achieve our climate targets.

None of those "policies" have actually been actioned afaik.

So first off for the householder after years of asking the FiT(Feed in Tariff) program is up and running. This will finally allow household who generate electricity and put surplus into the grid to get paid for it. This is created but of course ESB and the electricity companies are dragging heels but should be agreed soon.

One of the main advantage's is for farmers, yes farmers. They can supply excess electricity at a higher rate than wholesale price to the grid. So you will start to see all those sheds full of solar panels etc.

That's just one.

Care to remind us what is the max amount that the farmer or householder can earn from this nonsense? It's a pittance and it's forcing the companies to buy in electricity at a time when they probably won't need it (because it's bright and sunny) - and guess who will end up paying for all of the unwanted electricity; hint: it won't be Eamon Ryan! Smoke and mirrors. But I agree that it impresses the gullible.

So what cerebral shortcoming led you to imagine that I wasn't aware of what the unit price was?

I asked you what was the maximum sum* that a homeowner could raise from this Green con-job and you haven't answered me.

*clarification:- maximum annual sum that a homeowner can raise from selling to the grid.

There is feck all up and running only a system that allows high powered private investors allowed in by the CRU to effortlessly sponge off of households with solar by setting the minimum feed in tariff to 0c/kw. It is shameful

Solar power in Ireland? What planet are people living on? You realise that peak demand for energy in Ireland is on cold winter nights? 🤔

If the minimum FIT for solar is now 0c/kwh it's for a very good reason - power could be provided at the times that it is least required.

This is true, but throughout the calm days in the summer there is still a lot of electricity being used. Much of it during the day when the sun is out
