Looking to get an upgrade to my BMW screen to get Apple car play.

    Came across these guys: https://carplayinstaller.com/

Has anybody used them before? 🤔

I actually installed it in my own BMW, plenty of tutorials on YouTube. I found the one below very helpful.

Bought mine on AliExpress and have not had a problem with it.

Yes they are fine. Check their Instagram. Wait times are quite long tho

Their Instagram is fine, Facebook reviews are not good to say the least.

Looking for full payment upfront by website, no address and no way of contacting them. Could be the best in the world at these but no way will I be taking that chance! Massive red flags 🚩

Fair enough. I paid in full on the website and had no issues, just a long wait time.

If I remember correctly its PayPal payment. So there’s actually no risk whatsoever?

I was going to use them, talked to him on Instagram but he wasn't happy with the products that were available for my car, Audi A6 C7, the one with the retractable screen so he advised me against it. But seemed like a very decent bloke.

Got it done by another guy later and the product is fantastic, great upgrade to the car.

    Yes I used them.

Ended up having the unit uninstalled though because it was complete garbage imo.

@Buddy Bubs can you PM me the details of the guy who did yours please?

Same for me, though I installed it myself thanks to Youtube and 15 euro worth of tools off ebay. Unit was garbage- kept crashing the head unit, no amount of software updating would fix the problem, "support" on Whatapp from the vendor was useless.

Theres a guy in Tipperary goes by M Coding on Facebook who seems to know his stuff, might be worth contacting.

Its just not integrated enough - no matter who codes it imo. I had a reversing camera installed at the same time -

Kind of issues I had were -

    • Reverse lights stayed on as long as the reverse camera was active - it was sending power down into the lights, so even when you'd finished reversing and drove off, the reverse lights were lit up.
    • Accessing the carplay unit itself is a pain - having to hold down the button every time you get in for it to switch over just took too long
    • Barely ever connected to the phone - so unless I was doing a long drive, I had no sound - the phone was never picked up on short journeys
    • Randomly answered calls through carplay - even when I was on the OEM screen - which resulted in silence, and then no radio at all until the car was turned on and off
    • Take a left turn in the car and all the sound disappeared in the drivers side (imagine this was an installation issue)
    • Sound went off everytime you put the car in reverse
    • All these units put the sound through the AUX input - the sound quality was crap. Could not get the bass turned down no matter how it was adjusted.
    • Reversing radar didn't work at all - and the camera guides might as well have been attached to a different car. Totally useless.

There were more issues - can't access my paypal complaint now though!
