Savage rises. Summertime will help a bit but I wonder if prices will stay high or get back to reality by next Winter? I doubt it somehow. Going to be very hard on those just about paying the current bills.

Will we get more help from Government? It all looks very depressing between energy rises and fuel costs etc. I'm just going to try and pay a bit more over the Summer but I am fortunate that I can. Not everyone is in that position.

People won’t be able to pay it so the government have to do more. Looking about €40 per month increase for the average combined electricity plus gas customer

Probably just the beginning. Maybe we have gone past peak globalisation and consumerism and the chickens are coming home to roost as resources become less available and countries like China and Russia start hogging what's out there. Maybe we all need to live differently, the current system was always going to go this way.

No reasoning for a carbon tax now. Axe it immediatley. Energy prices are far higher than any carbon tax would have made them, which was the aim. So do the people a favor and bin them.

Its like crucifixion at this point.

Dunno about anyone else but the Gas central-heating is going a LOT less lately. Less than an hour in the morning, that's it. Not ideal but better than completely savage bills for me.

Don't have the figures to hand but it's far from insignificant from memory and has VAT lumped on top for good measure. An outrageous tax that further pummels the worst off in society. Just like USC does for the middle income.

I feel this is going to have massive effects on the discretionary consumption side of the economy. People aren’t going to have the extra money for things like nights out, meals, holidays, weekends away etc

Can see unemployment pushing up very easily.

This war is going to have a dramatic impact on all Western economies for many months to come, right into next winter. So we may get prepped for plenty more pain before it's all over.

There is another recession coming too, caused by all this. We are all heading for war time, whether we are being bombed or not.

People cannot cut out eating, heating their homes, running the car, so they will cut out the holiday, the treats, the takeaways, unnecessary clothes , the beer etc.

Keep an eye on the Standing Charge and PSO Levy. Whatever about the fuel cost element it would be very deceitful indeed to put those charges up too.

Yes, Most contracts you are committed to a fixed discount off the standard rate. So if they change the standard rate, your rate will change too.

Have cut 40 minutes off either end of the day so the equivalent of a day's use less per week. Once the evenings are anyway mild it will be off till September-October.

I wonder if Gov can do anything to subsidise any of this. Take ESB, for example a semi state that pays a significant surplus (profit) to the Gov. Maybe use the surplus to help people out or something.

Sorry I may not be aware of reasons why this can't be done. I understand that Bord Gais is independent and no State involvement.... as far as I know.

Wish could switch to a supplier that offers a fixed rate for 12 months. I can't understand how prices can be increased continiously but then they can charge you fees if you want to break the contract because of the increases.
