A trad stage/area would be great, maybe in the place of the under used Trenchtown. Though where would all the undercover cops go were that to be closed?

Scullion and Stockton's Wing touring, either or both would be great additions.

they've used print at home for years, barcode is a barcode regardless, with multiple copies it comes down to first come first serve

Thanks that makes sense just had something in my mind that they said to me previously only paper copies accepted

BD, I would have expected Apex twin headlining your festival at the very least...😅

I've been down to most of the indies and the line ups are pretty solid enough

Kamasi Washington in London this August 18th at South Facing Festival. What an addition he would be.

This isn't amazing unfortunately, though I do have tickets so will be making the best of it. Wild Roots seems to have a pretty good lineup in comparison.

What do you guys think of Body&Soul Festivals decision to not announce their lineup and to prefer to surprise you on the actual weekend, do you reckon they are taking a big risk with that or do they trust that 5.500 people will snap up tickets all the same because of the festival's reputation.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

Mother of God, BD, the anxiety!! Half the fun for me is working my way through the line up and finding new stuff. I'd be in flitters turning up at a festival with no idea who to expect. But of course Body and Soul is a completely different scene and I'm sure they'll shift their tickets no problem. I certainly know a few people who are looking to get away from the sort of corporate monster festival model and That size of a Body and Soul will be really appealing. The proof's in the pudding, of course. If they sell it as a 'surprise' this year and have a completely underwhelming set of acts, they'll bury themselves for next year but I'd be fully confident that it will be an interesting and diverse roster. Good luck to them.

Not knowing who is on and where until I got there would freak me out. I like to have a good sense of who I want to see, those I am happy to see if no clash those that might be worth toddling along to. Also one of the joys of a festival is discovering new bands and going to see them which is a lot harder to do when you don't know who is playing. Defo not for me (body and soul not really my scene but the concept is not for me)

Although I've never been to their standalone festival, I really like what the B&S squad have built Their space at EP was always first rate and had a lovely atmosphere about it. I'm also highly suspicious of Marketing so I don't like the approach and it actually put me off a bit. Doesn't mean it's wrong, it's just not for me. I'm sure everything will be grand and it'll sell out well in advance.

I've liked the Indiependence line-ups I've seen before but that's just a Michelstown Longitude. Puking Leaving Certs ahoy.

I like it and I'd chance it. Their lineups are reliably good and they'll likely have a few acts who'll be at Glasto the following weekend. They've had Nick Cave, Gary Numan, Fever Ray and John Grant in the past so they know what they're doing. They'll obviously announce a day or two beforehand so you'll get a good chance to work out what to see. And if you don't recognise many of the acts then consider it an opportunity to get musically educated.

I like the idea of mystery, but not sure how this would work for me!

Agree that "it's not all about the lineup" but this relates to not having the most popular/expensive acts. I'd still want to see the line up in advance, regardless.

As much as like no pressure, wandering, it's a long weekend to fill if I only knew a couple of the acts.

Possibly could work if they held back the headliners, and published the under card.

Ticketmaster resolved the issue for me. Original 2020 tickets still stand no longer need to go to the box office.

Body and Soul veteran, but not for me anymore, they have been scaling back year by year, but I'm there for music first and vibe second and for last few years it's been " never mind the volume feel the quality", too much vibe not enough music. So I think it will be few and far between on decent music acts, trading on rep. If you are going to skimp on acts, be up front like Vantasival, and as at least people know and enjoy what's there.

Just heard the Fontaines cover of The Cure's Just Like Heaven. Like them even less now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,028 ✭✭✭✭Seathrun66

😂😂 Yep, it's really flat. Cover something you can do justice to or greatly change. And I agree re the Fontaines being over-hyped (personally I much prefer Idles) but the best of their stuff is very good indeed and their EP set will be a huge celebration. Non-fans may even enjoy it. Just don't butcher Bob songs.

It's a shocker alright. I pretty sure they just did it to wind you up, Mucker.😉

With a bit of time on my hands with the extra long weekend I had a look to see how many acts from the first announcements I actually went to see (memory allowing). Since 2012 the highest has been 7 (year 1 when I didn't do enough research) with the other years between 3 and 5. As I always have to miss bands due to clashes (I generally only go to music at the Picnic) it shows that the first announcement is not really a big thing for my Picnic experience. As there are 10 on this year's that I would happily go along to it is statistically at least a decent first announcement.

Fontaines make me think I'm in the Truman show, not even a pub level band but have been marketed fantastically and have all the industry backing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,541 ✭✭✭Mike Guide 69

I always thought The Murder Capital should have got as much exposure and backing as Fontaines,I think they are far better band, imo….

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,736 ✭✭✭endainoz

They were definitely marketed properly, possibly over hyped a fair bit too and can be very divisive as a band. But to say they're not even a pub band level is just plain silly.

Will Buttler has left Arcade Fire!! 😔

They’ll miss his energy on the live stage for sure!
