    Strange silence always whenever these savages masquerading as a country in 2022, pop up into my newsfeed.

    It is no surprise that people in that general part of the world want to leave and come to the west.

    Perhaps this time there is only one news story. Wonder if the Saudis did this at this time, as it wouldn't get that much media attention or continuing focus beyond the single day newsworthy thing.

    I think the same thing. This country, who are massacring Yemenis using US aircraft seem to have a free rain to do anything. Not a peep out of any EU or Irish politician as far as i can see.

    Saudia Arabia is a truly odious regime. Apart from these executions there is rampant torture occurring in their prisons.

    The entire model of the state appears to be:

    • Allow the gargantuan royal family to steal as much as they can from the oil revenues and generally act with impunity
    • Buy off the general population with cushy benefits and do nothing jobs in the public sector
    • Import third world de-facto slaves to do all of the difficult and unpleasant manual work
    • Stamp out absolutely any threats to the power structure (especially within the Shia minority)
    • Try and buy good press for the country via sports-washing and holding large expo type events
    • Trying to obtain regional hegemony by fighting proxy wars with Iran (in Yemen) and trying (and failing) to ostracize Qatar

    One of the bonuses of moving away from the world's dependence on hydrocarbons will be to see the likes of the Saudis struggle to create a functioning economy without their oil revenues.
