Kendellen tripped over a stray leg in the ruck if you look back at it

I missed the first half, but fair play to Munster for their response in the second. Experience on the bench making a big difference.

Against 14 now there's a chance of the win if they keep their composure.

Bet we'll see SA fans who think it wasnt a red...they are just as big of whingers as the Welsh...

I must admit I switched off after the try to make it 26-3 but fair play for the comeback but you cant have a first half like Munster had and deserve to win, they deserved a BP for their fightback atleast. Hopefully they learn their lessons and beat the Lions next week.

Munster never looked comfortable with their skills work in the last 5 minutes. They had a great opportunity to manufacture overlaps, but didn't take it. The best chance for a try at the end was on the near side where Munster got over the gain line constantly. There was ab overlap, but a poor pass was fired to Eoin O'Connor's ankles and he knocked on.

Did Du Plesis just not fancy it today? He had loads of time to pull out of that suplex or whatever it was and looked completely indifferent going off.

Thought Bulls looked very comfortable into the second half and Munster would suffer but great turnaround.

As others have said, can't have first halves like that and hold out much hope of a win but Munster have done similar before so not entirely surprising it finished tight. Good to see the South African teams performing at home even if they did switch off a bit.

Crowd disappointing, a team like Munster coming to down should have been a draw. Are there still restrictions in SA?

They were wearing masks so maybe there was a limit to the crowd size

Did I miss something but did Whitehouse not even give a yellow card for the shoulder hit to Kendellan's neck?

Does anyone else think Ben Whitehouse had an absolutely shocking performance today? Munster were sloppy in the 1st half but everything Munster did, the bulls were st as well, but Ben only blew against Munster. The inconsistency is what makes it so bad.

He missed multiple neck rolls, rolling and running into the scrum half all day but only penalised once

Munsters penalty count at half time was too high because of poor discipline from Munster, but the bulls was way too low because Whitehouse ignored their infringements

Its a stadium same size as the Aviva. of course looked like very few there. If they played in a better suited ground it would be fine but they dont

That is shocking if the case.

The TMO was clearly hinting red saying 'direct to the neck'. Whitehouse was initially saying yellow and then just gave a penalty. I couldn't believe the decision so thought I must have missed something.

Yeah, 'Medium force' Whitehouse decided that a direct hit to the 'base of the neck' doesn't count as contact with the neck. And then mitigated down from a yellow on the basis that Kendellen wasn't standing perfectly straight when he was tackled

No. He got some calls wrong and let some things go for both sides.

The Kendellen tackle was a YC. Wrong call by BW. The Cloete jackal was 50/50 and would need to see the other angles to see where his hands are originally. He also called a foot trip against JOD (I think) which on another day could have been accompanied by a card.

The first 25 minutes Munster gave away a heap of dumb, needless penalties which gave the Bulls the momentum and with that the ref tends to be more lenient.

In 2nd half when Munster stopped giving away dumb penalties, they then got some momentum and in turn they got the same leniency as the Bulls in the first half

The idea that BW was out to get Munster is total nonsense.

To my mind Whitehouse is the worst of the pro ref's by a decent margin. I don't mind when he ref's because he's bad for both sides - but he misses so much that a greater element of lottery comes into the game and teams definitely know it.

My read of it was that both of the SA touch judges (or assistant referees if you wish) were arguing that it wasn't even a card as they watched it on the big screen and they persuaded him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,828 ✭✭✭Tigerandahalf

For me it was a red card all day long. Direct shoulder contact to the head/neck area with no mitigating factors. Neither player slipped up or down. The inconsistency with refs on this is really poor. Even the TMO was giving him the biggest hint he could but Whitehouse doesn't listen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 595 ✭✭✭jimdemp

Munster where terrible and bulls stopped playing at 29-3 up. Du Plessis was a disgrace. Kendellen looked a bit light out there at times. You can see why SA teams give out about refs even when they are fair, it puts pressure on refs when the head to SA
