Why so little actual war footage of this crisis?

There is absolutely tonnes of footage online. Reddit, Twitter, Facebook have countless hours of the stuff, every day there are dozens if not a hundred new videos uploaded. A lot of it is graphic.

I'm not that interested it digging for graphic footage. But the OPs point struck me too, from my occasional news watching. Unlike most other conflicts I can recall on TV news (Yugoslavia, Chechnya, Kosovo, Congo conflicts, 2003 iraq war, Georgia, afghanistan 2000-2021, Armenia, etc), I've seen very very little actual battle footage.

You're right there's little Western footage. This YouTube site has some very detailed vids of battle footage, plus breakdowns of what's going on. Look under 'Ukraine war' section.

They don't show it because Western media are not embedded with the forces. There is a lot of content out there in raw form. I'm subscribed to a few Telegram channels and unless you speak Russian you don't know what you're likely to see until you it's too late. Some of it is very hard to watch and absolutely sickening.

You are better off not seeing it.

Most of the networks pulled their crews back, there is some experienced journalists still on the ground, but experience doesn't make it any less dangerous when the Russians see journalists as fair game. One of the most experience crews were nearly executed last week.

France24 at night do tend to show more than other networks if you are that interested.

The modern Western Europe has lost it's understanding of the Eastern European way of thinking.

Russia and it's Kremlin based leadership,simply do not share our mores and desires,our refined views of lovely cities and statuary or artworks.

Mr Putin would have his military destroy these cities in a flash,without blinking.

Quite what Russia will do with a newly regained but destroyed Ukraine,and it's questionably loyal population into the future is a very pertinent question,and worth putting directly to the man himself,as even a nutcase,at some point has to rationalize their doings ?
