Well I assure you I'm no Pro Russian shill although if the Russian government is reading this and wants to send me a paycheck, preferably not in Rubles then I may reconsider 😄

As someone who has studied history a bit, I always believe in having multiple sources of information. Even if you know one is biased, it can still help you understand how the other side sees things but to be honest we are getting propaganda from both sides so it is really hard to know who to trust and to be honest, we won't know the real picture until possibly years after this conflict has ended.

I'm sorry if the sources I have linked to also graphic but I do believe at times if you want to prevent violence, you need to show people what it is like even if it upsets some.

No you dance the very fine line. But expose yourself often enough. It's actually superbly easy to spot. As we say here anti war 'me hole', Anti ukranian assistance more like.

I shall continue to consume your methods and point out their flaws.

    Adversarial

    "Thanks, I'll try!

I posted the story because I'm against people unnecessarily throwing their life away fighting a major military power."

Can I get an Amen, Adversarial to...

Putin is a rabid dog and his tiny penis should be cut off and fed to his dog as a little appetizer?

Thanks for the constant stream of pro Russian propaganda btw.

The guy in that article is free to do as he wishes. You casting aspersions on his character is hardly surprising considering.

Putin is a war criminal who has illegally invaded a peaceful independent country and who is currently waging a war against the Ukrainian people. You can try and paint that any which way you like - it won't wash.

Sky News are reporting that Putin has said they will need to "welcome" foreign volunteers from the middle East. Around 15k. Basically the Syrian army.

    That's desperation.

What's the definition of a Russian string quartet?

A Russian orchestra back from a US tour!

He might be onto somethings, seems to be lots of Spooks around here of late.

It wouldn't surprise me one single bit if you were lashing this text off from behind a battered gate on Orwell road.

Do you seriously believe the people in that consulate give a flying monkey's testicle about what people on this thread believe? If their aim is to spread propoganda amongst the Irish people they have far better ways of doing it than posting on Boards.ie

Maybe that was the wrong term and a little offensive. I apologise. I guess maybe the correct term would be a Walter Mitty. I really do hope at least for his mother's sake. He returns home safely or at least if he is captured by the Russians they treat him as a legitimate prisoner of war and release him in due course.

I hope the Ukrainians are doing some kind of vetting for all the foreigners joining their ranks. No doubt most of them are professionally trained and well intentioned, but you can be sure there's a few sociopaths heading over to play at rambo and to shoot at people with no consequence.

For all the supposed russian brilliance in the dark arts of propaganda it is amazing how cack handed and amateur it seems when an actual war is going on. There is no longer the plausibility of looking for peace and being provoked etc.

Great to get Russian insight on this... BUT, should be leaking Russian strategy? Do you like one lump or two of polonium with your tea?

Damn my position has been compromised. I better head back to Moscow at once!

I'm not an idiot. I prefer to sweeten my tea with the wonderful sweetness of lead.

Evidently you've no idea how their constant and wide spread misinformation war works. Ill let you go off and research it yourself. No country, format or forum is off limits pal.

The trick is that you think it doesn't exist and they've better things to be doing.

    .. Like what processing visas!!?.....

So should Russia currently be in another country's sovereign territory killing it's citizens and destroying it's infrastructure? Yes or No will suffice.

It's also contradictory. Pre 2014 the Kremlin spin and actual feeling on the street would have been that Ukrainians and Russians were indeed brothers. Something that wouldn't be thought of about Poland or Latvia, or any of the other Soviet era statelets with the exception of Belarus, Georgia and Serbia to a lesser extent. Post 2014 the Kremlin spin has been to distance that familial relationship in the Russian mind and increase the Ukrainians are nazis attacking our Russian Ukrainian brothers in the East storyline.

If he had only invaded and taken the Donbas that spin would have made sense and he'd likely have gotten away with it with few sanctions from the west beyond impotent grumblings in the UN, and chances are high he'd have been welcomed by the ethnic Russians too, and been feted as a hero of Russia back home, with little spin required. It still staggers me that he decided to go for the whole country and I'd bet it staggers his minions and generals too.

Since comparisons with hitler and appeasement seem popular; if hitler had stopped with annexing Austria and the Sudetenland(and for similar excuses/reasons to putin), where he was welcomed and it was a walkover where he wasn't, WW2 would have been way down the line of probability. This comparison of course has some thinking putin won't stop with Ukraine. The difference is hitler could and did take Austria and Czechoslovakia with ease and then Poland and France and the Low Countries with relative ease and had enough in his back pocket to take on Britain and Russia. At that point there wasn't an army on earth that could stop him. Putin's problem is there are and a few of them and his 'Czechoslovakians' are not rolling over and are pushing back hard.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

Those Spetnaz commanders were just reserves too , right?

Absolutely. I wonder what they do with people like this.. There is PR value to their arrival but the Ukranians would have to be careful what duties they assign. I assume there's a protocol.

You can see the blood lust on this thread, even. War gives every sociopath and angry old man an opportunity to vent their inner ugly, except due to the circumstances they can do so openly and all in the name of a good cause. They are fooling no one.

And on Putin, his tiny penis and his pet dog... any comment on that, Komrade?

you can be sure there's a few sociopaths heading over to play at rambo and to shoot at people with no consequence.

As with an earlier post regarding many UK sold having learning disabilities, these are exactly the kind of people they want. There are very few intellectual soldiers for a good reason.

worried about what happens tonight and over the weekend now. The column has dispersed into positions around the west of Kiev and looking like a full on bombardment of the city is about to commence. This is utterly hellish

Vladislav Surkov changed Russia with misinformation. His tactic was to not just support groups he liked, but to support everyone so no one knew what to think. He wanted everyone to suspect everything all the time, and call each other names so that no real truth could ever be reached. In this confusion and chaos authoritarians reign supreme. He wanted people to act just like your acting, without evidence just throw out the accusations.

No, I don't support the invasion in its current form. I understand Russia's reason for seizing control of the Crimea given its history and it's importance to their navy in the black sea and they should have stuck to just being in the Donbas as there they have a large ethnic Russian population and a majority there seem to support the idea of being part of Russia. At least that's the impression that I got before the current wider incursion into Ukrainian territory.

I realise it's bad form to reply to my own posts but I've had a second thought that Putin could also be trying to up the ante to goad another country, NATO or otherwise, to provide yet more military assistance (in the form of that well-worn tabloid phrase, 'boots on the ground') to give him the excuses he needs for home consumption.

Third thought is to create more panic within Ukraine, so more people leave the country altogether, try to over-stretch EU neighbours with refugees so the EU's fortitude on help and sanctions etc. wavers.

Or even, little bit of column A, little bit of column B ...

I think perhaps you have too high an opinion of yourself and this forum. Boards.ie would not even register a blip on the radar of influencing Irish culture and society.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,430 ✭✭✭✭listermint

Of course I have a high opinion of myself, but I'm actually unsure what the hell that has to do with this current subject. I'm talking about forums. Your talking about my opinion of myself?

Did I say Russians are targeting me? (short answer, no)

    You're off your nut friend.

Yaka dak daka dak dak Yaka dak.

I'm basing my opinions on the content of that posters post. They are saying one thing but linking and throwing out slurs that are completely contrary to what they say they believe in.

    It's not rocket science.

Its hardly exploitation, people who would usually struggle getting a basic job or cope successfully within society in general are provided structure and a decent living in their countries armed forces.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,430 ✭✭✭✭listermint

Also interesting the same people that say why would Russians have an interest in Ireland.. Yet here they are with one of the biggest embassy in the western world.

Mad shite all together when you really think about it.

Little oul Ireland. To high an opinion of itself..... Etc etc ad nauseam

So are we at the stage where Russia can do pretty much anything it wishes in Ukraine, including killing civilians, chemical weapons etc and Nato will not intervene? Nato and the EU,US,etc owe it to Ukraine and ourselves as to where exactly they stand. Hundreds of Ukrainians will be killed by Russians before I quit work today and many more in the days ahead. If there is no limit or red lines as to what Russia can do in Ukraine well then just say it!
