"A new six-part TV series exploring the working lives of seven Irish agricultural contracting families from diverse locations is set to air later this month.

The entertainment documentary Contractors will follow the families over a critical period from April to September, and will air on TG4 on Thursday, February 24.

The programme will feature crews from Limerick, Kerry, Meath, Tipperary, Galway, Donegal and Clare, while highlighting the professional challenges they face, the high and lows of their daily routine, and their personal aspirations for a life in agriculture.

Each episode will follow a theme based on the time of year and work involved."

Most people aren't farmers and it's nice to see how the other half lives. I learned you can pump slurry to a moving tractor 2.5Km away.

Well I would look at they way people use their machinery on a TV any day before looking at something like Fair City.. TG4 done a program on vets a few years back, just following them around filming their work & I found it entertaining as well.

I thought the converted silage trailer was a nice idea for a nurse tank. Anything that portrays farming in a positive light in the media has to be welcomed in the current climate. Kind of wished the ones loading the animals didn't use the sticks even though it was light touches.

Pat farrelly from meath strikes me as a lad that's stood some torture over the years at contracting, but just deals with it calmly.

Ah Pat & Peter are like that, the best in the world, nothing is ever an issue for them & always try their best for you. I remember them as a kid drawing in double chopped silage with a 290 & Ford 5610.. it would go on for awhile, now they draw it in when they are passing with a fleet of JDs.

Great variety in the ways and type of farming across the country..the setup in clare with all the neighbours helping is great to see..that has died out in theses parts unfortunately

Ah they have, but there would be a few very big dairy farmers that they work for. And then there is the rest of us that only need them 1 or 2 days a year. But in fairness they treat everyone the same.

It was nice watching all those aul lads bringing in the bales. Haven't done anything like that since everyone moved from the small bales of hay. Days like that were great. Was at a funeral a while back and it was remarked that unless someone is coming (wedding) or going (funeral) you'd never see each other much these days.

Funny to listen to the guys with the all-in-one balers talking about their benefits, but up here it's all separated out as the ground and fields don't really lend to that size and weight of machine.

Was interesting to see the flora in some of the silage being cut down. One of them was very meadow-esque

Some of them lads are farming in absolutely stunning scenery. The fella mowing by the lake, beautiful place wherever it was.

Very enjoyable show, a nice easy watch as is the case with so much of what tg4 produce. Best channel out there by a long way for their documentaries alone.

When RTÉ 2 etc lose their mass audience in years to come (not many young people watch tv stations, not mind RTÉ), there will always be a place for the likes of tg4. Excellent channel with no stupid frills about it
