Sure just go with George Orwell Road... that might be acceptable to the Ross O'Carroll-Kellys out there.

A situation report from the perspective of Ukraine:

Operational information of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as of 06.00, 10.03.2022

The fifteenth day of the heroic resistance of the Ukrainian people against the russian military invasion has begun.

Ukraine's defense forces continue to hold back the offensive of the russian Armed Forces in Donetsk, Slobozhansky and parts of the Tavriya operational areas. Defend the Ukrainian cities of Kharkiv and Okhtyrka. The main efforts are focused on preventing the enemy from advancing in the south-eastern direction. The circular defense of the city of Mariupol continues.

At the same time, the state border with the Republic of Belarus continues to be covered.

In the Siverskyi region, Ukrainian defenders are defending the city of Chernihiv. Measures are being taken to deter the enemy from advancing in the direction of Kyiv.

The group of forces and means of defense of the city of Kyiv is constantly ready to repel the enemy's offensive, inflicts fire damage on the offensive group of occupiers and maintains certain defensive lines.

In the southern direction, the enemy is held back in the directions of the cities of Kryvyi Rih, Mykolayiv, Voznesensk and the settlement of Novovorontsovka (Kherson region).

In other areas, groups of troops are conducting a stabilization operation and performing territorial defense tasks.

Units of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine repel missile and bomb strikes and destroy enemy air strikes, provide air cover for important objects of Ukraine and groups of troops.

Over the past two days, fighter jets and anti-aircraft missile units have destroyed four Su-25 attack aircraft and two enemy helicopters.

The enemy reduced the pace of the offensive, its personnel demoralized. The number of cases of desertion and looting has significantly increased.

We believe in the Armed Forces and other Ukrainian defenders!

    Glory to Ukraine!

The line separating good and evil passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties either – but right through every human heart…even within hearts overwhelmed by evil, one small bridgehead of good is retained. And even in the best of all hearts, there remains…an uprooted small corner of evil.

Thanks to ideology the twentieth century was fated to experience evildoing calculated on a scale in the millions. Alas, all the evil of the twentieth century is possible everywhere on earth. Yet, I have not given up all hope that human beings and nations may be able, in spite of all, to learn from the experience of other people without having to go through it personally.

Unfortunately it has come to that, thanks to Putin's actions.

Perhaps Putin wants a much bigger war so that he can simply do whatever he likes and expand Russian controlled territory.

His problem is that he can't win any war conventionally so has to rely on the nuclear threat or it's actual use.

How is any side supposed to know whether the other will escalate in steps or immediately strike multiple cities.

We know that Russia has more nuclear warheads but that advantage may be negated by US capability to intercept incoming missiles.

I'm guessing that there's a lot of chatter happening via back channels right now and that implicit approval may soon be given to the "West" to rattle Putin without fear of reprisal orders being followed. I'm hoping this is happening round about now. The Russians might then be in a position to remove Putin from the equation. One hopes.

The processors that make mobile phones sold in the west work, are mostly made by TSMC in Taiwan, not China.

Its isn't genius. It turns Rathgar into a canvass for trolling and the name is quite clunky. It freezes a part of Dublin in an eastern European territorial dispute on a whim.

Mod - thread has had another cleanup and a large number of posts concerning Trump as well as American Politics or election nonsense not relevant to the discussion have been deleted.

There are a number of posters getting very close to a threadban at this stage (@matchbox2021 and @Snooker Loopy looking in your direction)

    Stay on topic please

I don't see anyone on this thread both sides-ing this conflict. Everyone knows Russia overstepped the line. What is happening is that people are imagining support for Putin whenever they imagine they have detected even the slightest deviation from their moral absolutism.

I was both sidesing bigoted Irish that get all het up about Trump and Biden. They are fools and barely worth commenting on. They are fook all use to Ireland or the US.

Conformity can be just as empty and dangerous as contrariness. And both can be good, depending on context.

It was the contrary ones that railed against the dominance of the Catholic Church in Ireland (while the conformists sneered). It was contrary ones that rebelled in 1916 (while the conformists spat on them in the street, literally). It will be the conformists that hold these advances together over time. So the categories of conformist, both sideism, and contrarian are pretty meaningingless in themselves.

    It's super effective!

    Russia uses....

There's no chance of a repeat of the MH17 incident, so what remains?

This is a thinly veiled threat by the Russians of another MH17.

Watching the videos in the aftermath of the attack yesterday was absolutely sickening.

This morning, Gerashchenko gave an update to say that 3 people died in the attack including a little girl.

    Clunky?

There is a place in Galway called Muckanaghederdauhaulia.

It translates into “ridge shaped like a pig's back between two expanses of briny water”

    We will get over it.

Very unlikely: these viper dens are heavily invested with espionage based infrastructure that takes considerable time and effort to install, like faraday cage rooms or the entire structure being made one. It likely takes years to fit an 'embassy' building out for intelligence gathering.

"The sprawling complex on Orwell Road in south Dublin has been used as a major base for Russian intelligence for years, particularly in the area of communications interceptions.

    ...

Sources point to the relatively large number of diplomatic staff registered as working in the embassy as evidence of Russian espionage activities.

There are currently 31 staff known to be working in the embassy. This is more than many other European countries’ Dublin embassies including the UK (22), Poland (10), Germany (12) and France (19)." https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/russia-still-plans-to-extend-dublin-embassy-s-espionage-role-say-experts-1.4814532

It's unfathomable to me why this spy base is still allowed to operate and hasn't been shut down.

Surely the biggest irony ever is that the Russian Embassy in Ireland is on Orwell Road - as in the guy who wrote 1984. As far as I can see that really can't be beaten.

What do you think about the Bobby Sands Burger Bar in Tehran? Does that make you smile too?

I used to smirk at Bobby Sands Rd too, even while knowing that it appeals to the lowest form of bigotry. It still has some novelty value, I confess.

But the burger bar thing (IMO) shows how utterly stupid and ignorant these provocations are. A burger bar in honor of a hunger striker? They can feck off.

At this point, I regard Russia's government as hostile. I see little benefit in hearing their side of the story on all of this anymore, given what they've already said. They can do their talking in diplomatic negotiations with Ukraine, but they shouldn't be given any easy channels into our society to spread bad faith misinformation designed to cause infighting and doubt among the public. They'll do or say anything possible to undermine our unity. It's not just about physical war going on in Ukraine, but a wider informational one.
