Civil Service Salary Scale - Points 4 and 8

Hi,

I'm and EO and I was under the impression that "new entrants" skip points 4 and 8 on the salary scale as part of an agreement a couple of years ago. However my local HR has told me that the salary scales have been "cleaned up" to take this into account and so I will be moving from point 3 to point 4 and not point 5.

Circular 4/20 was the circular in question. Something to do with undoing points on the scale that were introduced as part of the Haddington Road agreement.

Anyone know anything about this?

Never heard of the cleaning up of the scales.

It's automatic.

You go to point 4 and then are automatically put onto point 5 by payroll.

If you are eligible as per that circular, EO is one of the grades where points 4 and 8 are skipped. That person either misunderstood what was asked or isn't aware of what they are talking about.

Does it basically apply to anyone who joined 2011 onward? The circulars have me going around in circles 😀

So anyone who has joined since then, even those who joined in the last year, will skip points 4 and 8?

It seems pretty clear to me anyway that if you joined last year it applies.

Send them this and ask them to explain why they think it doesn't. In appendix two you are Bob.

I started as an EO in 2018, and in 2021, I jumped from point 3 to 5 automatically. Never heard anything about them "cleaning up" the scales.

There has been no removal/cleaning up of points 4 & 8, there are still the exact same number of points and relative progression.
