In the south of Ukraine the Russians seem to be heading towards Odesa and Rybnyy Port ( contains large quanties of oil and grain)

Once they have captured all of Southern Ukraine, the will head North to close all of Ukraines Westerly borders to the outside World.

This might be their tactic to stop and Arms or Aid coming into Ukraine

=(:-) Me? I know who I am. I'm a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude (-:)=

I think that's an important point to make..a lot of people this week feigning shock at this war.Putin has form as history shows,he is battle hardy and is no novice to war.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,922 ✭✭✭ronivek

They don't need to close the borders; and they don't really have the personnel or equipment to do so anyway.

They'll likely just surround cities and larger suburban areas to make sure nothing can get in or out and just try to pound and starve them into submission. Russia has form for this during the Second Chechen War and the Battle of Grozny. Granted Kyiv is significantly larger than Grozny but I think even just the possibility of another Grozny will be enough to force Ukraine to capitulate long before then.

The Ukranians need this guy fast. He will take out the whole Russian army with his advanced weapons.

An old but effective weapon. Lethal against light armor and very useful in house to house fighting as you can create an entry point with it and suppress the defenders on the inside. And like most things of that era works in all conditions

"Putins curren whereabouts has me concerned, with a slight pinch of optimism. If true, that he is hiding out in the Altai Mountains, then it seems that he is preparing for the worst."

He's probably as scared of his own people as anybody else!

Just to put this “very simple” project into perspective.

Ireland, with its status as a corporate tax haven, is one of the locations taking center stage in this fiasco. Leasing companies based in the country account for US$4-5bn of the estimated US$12bn in leased commercial aircraft now involved. AerCap, the world’s largest lessor of commercial aircraft, is based in Dublin.

AerCap itself has, according to the Times, 152 planes – the most of any leasing company, according to consultancy IBA – valued at about US$2.5bn in Russia and Ukraine. Its customers include Aeroflot and Rossiya who hold, by value, about 5 percent of AerCap’s fleet as of December. Ammunition intercompatability.

Just occured to me that lack of Ammunition is never mentioned in the war. Ukranians use the same rounds ( more or less) as the Russians, so they have captured millions of rounds from the Russians so far. The Russian round is also slightly smaller than a NATO round. Years ago, I had the opportunity of firing a couple of rounds from both an AR-15 and an AK. The AK felt like a .22 rifle. Hardly any recoil and the "crack" was like that of a .223 hunting rifle. You'd know you fired an AR-15, I can tell you!

Mariupol ceasefire not really for humanitarian reasons but to allow Russia to reorganize and deploy more cannon fodder (19/20 year old soldiers). Fewer artillery strikes and air strikes. Russia could lose this war through its own corruption.

I would say Abramovich and Usmanov are drawing up a list of the government hierarchy(Ministers, advisers, Generals) who will be handed over to face war crimes. Vladimir Putin is cowardly beyond belief. There is no way he is in Moscow. To call him scum would be an insult to scum.

Where are you hearing that Russians are refusing to enter Mariupol?

C-5 Super Galaxy just south of Sicily. It will be really interesting to see where she ends up. Largest aircraft in the USAF. A massive troop and Tank carrier.

The big boys are active!, haven't seen one in the theatre of operations yet.

I'd appreciate it if someone else keeps an eye on where it ends up. If it's Romania, then there are some serious reinforcements occurring.

It's all well and good Putin hiding in the middle of nowhere, but I'd fully expect the Americans to have at least 2 nukes locked in on that exact position

Interesting opinion piece on Zelenskyy and how he handled Trump during the blackmail attempt. Zelenskyy's no naif, that's for sure, and giving the world some hope Ukraine will prevail.

Is it the first time ever a peace keeping mission has called a cease fire..

I'm really struggling to understand how Russian people are so blinkered..I had really hoped that they would cop on sooner than this. Grimble grumble where ever he is hiding can't keep his atrocities from them forever. Approximately 100 million(?) ex pat Russian people worldwide sitting idly by afraid to speak up. Disgusting

Ah get out of it. You'd get more American nazis on a Louis theroux documentary.

500 is only scrapping the surface. 500 in one prison maybe.

Merkel was all about trade and dialogue and as a child of the Soviet block felt she had a handle on Putin. Maybe she had but not this version of him. They were looking at the mutual benefits and under the illusion that Russia could be persuaded to be a good partner to Europe. For a while the signs were decent but sadly a regime obsessed with the glory days of the Soviet/Russian empire are just not going to do that. Laughing at Trump is really no great affront to anyone, apart from to Trump himself.

Trump has just come out with the hard talk, stating that none of this would happen if he was in office because he would have threatened to nuke Moscow. That would definitely solve the problem 🙄🙄🙄

They are not blinkered, they are blinded by the State. What can these 100m do? If they have any family at home there is a huge risk to them.

I mean the biggest problem is that the term "Nazi" doesn't have a clear meaning. It seems to be used to refer to people who are even slightly nationalist or maybe just racist/xenophobic all the way up to genuine Hitler fetishists and ethnic cleansing advocates and everything in between.

It's just yet another lazy way to categorise people without actually even trying to look any deeper.

    They seek him here

    They seek him there

    At the Golden Gate

    And Freedom Square

He must avoid the death squads, this is his solemn test

'Cause he's a dedicated leader of the Ukraine

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,809 ✭✭✭threeball

He couldn't even take out a lad armed with mud and a few sticks

Some guy that I was speaking to was trying to state that the loony left are evil, and that National Socialists were left wing.. He is the Fox News and RT type.

Everybody has some understanding of what Nazi means. It is a fascist who puts the glory of the motherland above human-life and will systematically kill the innocents to achieve their”Reich”

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,161 ✭✭✭realdanbreen

His countries military have invaded Ukraine and are killing men women and children and he goes on TV complaining that he's receiving death threats!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,809 ✭✭✭threeball

It's very close to China to be lobbing a couple of nukes at a lad in a bunker. Can't see that happening

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,132 ✭✭✭✭is_that_so

The remarkably unified response worldwide would have given them serious pause for thought and put the US and Taiwan on much higher alert. A $500bn trade surplus would also be at risk and they are still struggling to work out how to stay on both sides of the fence

I have an awful feeling that Zelensky is the out for Putin and that when he's gone then nato will say enough and putin will say I got what I wanted.
