I got to within just over 1000km north of it on my 3rd guess, but had to resort to Google in the end. It's alternative name rang a bell when I saw it but I didn't really have a clue where it was.

I got the country next door as well, but couldn't figure out which one the answer was, and had to resort to Google.

However,looking a bit more closely I'm a bit confused about the distances reported .. how are they measured exactly? They don't seem to correspond to distances between capital cities, nor do they match distances between approximations to the countries' geographical centres as measured on Google Maps, at least for today's puzzle.

EDIT: Looking at it more closely, some of my earlier guess which are a long way away, in separate continents in some cases, are pretty close, but the closer you get the more off the figures are. Odd. I'll post some figures tomorrow if I remember once today's puzzle is closed.

This was from yesterday and I agree that it was a strange one. After the first guess I got 2000km north-west, then 3000km south-east after my second guess, which should have meant that my first guess should have been 1000km south-east, but that would have been wrong too. It's probably something to do with Great Circles and the like...😀
