eu to spend 450 million as a block for the first time on weapons to be delivered to ukraine war zone plus another 50 million euros on medical aid .. thats not a lot of money in the grand scheme of things but it is massive in terms of being a first for the EU ..... could be a sign of future things to come...

Just watching the news and those brave men going off to fight Russia there are tears in the eyes of my wife and I as I type . What has Putin unleashed

This is off topic, I know, but The Road was marketed as a kind of action film, but ended up being one of the most depressing films I have ever seen.

Anyway, if nuclear war ever kicked off, I might figure it would be better to actually travel to a large population centre and be killed instantly, rather than scavenge through the ruins of what was once civilisation, only travelling by night, and never lighting a fire, in order to avoid cannibal tribes.

A judoka friend of mine once told me that it's obvious Putin's judo is actually fairly rudimentary, and while accepting he probably achieved a blackbelt, it was achieved a long time ago and his skills have clearly atrophied if he ever was a high-level player. The martial arts master thing has been part of the image for a long time and there are probably black belts in any judo club in Dublin that would mince a young Putin. Basically, he said from looking at videos he was never elite.

Teddy Roosevelt interestingly was a high-grade brown belt back in an era when judo was a legitimate tough-bast*rd endevour more than the sport it is now. Probably would have crushed Vlad.

Agreed that he is well cocooned. But he is a 70 year old man, and not a particularly fit looking one either….

There have been groups there for years.

The Titushki were very active during 2014. A lot were released from Prison during the Maidan clashes to act as sabateurs.

Just watched that as well very brave to be flying from Ireland over to Ukraine, putting yourself in serious danger for your home country, lets hope they all come back

I imagine Putin's judo sparring opponents go down like this,

No, I think he probably worked with a UN body or Trocaire.

I think no matter where in the world we are it would be a worry, a massive worry, yes you may not be in the initial radius of death, but the global catastrophe that would unfold would be unthinkable, nuclear fallout, essential assets gone, food shortages, water shortages, supply chain disruption, a long term cold spell, a nuclear winter...

Obviously nobody knows for certain, but a lot of research in the past suggests a very bleak future for the planet even with a small nuclear attack.

This is an interesting synopsis of what may happen put together using many credible sources.

Oh yeah I'm wary of this too because nothing they've done so far has made much sense so there's definitely a heightened risk beyond sabre rattling. I still have faith in critical thinking and rationale taking over though even if he were to order strikes. Maybe I have too much faith in humanity despite us scraping the barrell the last 6 or so years, which is down to Putin's desire to sow discord around the world.

Looks like the Russian slowdown while down to brave Ukrainian resistance might also be helped by Russian corruption. Army leaders and commanders may have been also on the take and lying about fuel and supply levels. Easily explains why they are having difficulty going forward.

If the Ukrainians keep hitting the supply lines with drone strikes or hit and run javs, Russians would very quickly grind to a halt.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue

I disagree. These aren't news outlets, it's very carefully fabricated disinformation and hate speech disguised as "news". These "news outlets" controlled by the Kremlin are perfectly free to operate in Russia.

Putin is a f*cking moron. If his aim was to pull Ukraine back into the Russian orbit he's spectacularly achieved the exact opposite. Ukraine is never going back into vassal status with Russia, and the thought of it will be hateful to Ukrainians for generations to come much like Poland.

A real Easter 1916 sea change. A new nation is being born before our eyes. Even ethnic Russians are aboard the Zelensky train.

Sick of the 4Chan "Putin is a 4D chess grandmaster" sh*te coming from the political extremes. He was always a basic sly KGB thug that used residual rusting Soviet military might to push other countries around. His luck has run out now.

Good point. There was talk of diesel being sold and troops drinking the money

A page collating information links for refugees..someone mentioned friends heading for the border on the thread yesterday?

Poland Slovakia and Hungary (possibly others?) allowing family pets also...see forms..bringing them can help lessen trauma for children. Pack for the pets also and careful they dont bolt or become too stressed.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/wiki/ukrainewar/

Queue's very very long after potentially traveling an already long distance. Come prepared as you can, especially for a very cold night outdoors. There has been problems on the border regarding some nationalities not being allowed enter or delayed..these seem to be starting to resolve with consular help. Some countrys asking people to contact them first on helplines as they are organising to go in groups to the border from nearby. Try team up with others if by yourself before crossing. Men being checked re 'conscription' rules. Conserve your phone battery. Carry inportant documents on you, not in a different bag. Some countrys organising repatriation flights once across the border for people. Try and keep as calm as possible, you can do this.

Red cross/crescent along with local volunteers have been helping setting up shelters etc...but have been unable to enter the country yet due to the volaitile situation...but sending medical supplys etc.

Go neiri an bothar libh/May the road rise with you.♡

Well that's better than where you have recently seen the young guys on TV legging it out to Poland, Moldova along with the real refugees i.e. the women, children and old.

Note for all you pro migrants across the Med, a real refugee column is not majority young men.

I wonder if his mate Steven Seagal is flying over to help Putin out?

Those videos of him cluelessly holding guns and his half arse judo moves are hilarious.

Here's a thing. We've closed airspace over the UK to Russian flights, but ships and boats can still dock here...

Would love to know what Merkel is up to at the moment. It's fairly coincidental timing to come so soon after she finally stepped aside.

I never thought of the Ukrainians of having a great sense of humour, but boy do some of them even when facing the gallows so to speak.

The handful of defenders of that island told the much superior Russian ship to go fook themselves and there is story of Ukrainian guy in car offering Russians in out of fuel armoured car/tank a lift back to the border.

    Ballsy people.

Putin is toast. His cronies will start deserting him shortly and he'll be arrested for treason so Russia can save face.

Very good point. Poland was fighting to keep those guys out and got in around 200.000 real refugees within last 36 hours.
