Watching SKY News, here, and they were saying a bit earlier that the Russians will probably try to roll tanks and artillery directly into the city centre of Kyiv and smash the place as much as they deem necessary to break resistance and then hoist the Russian flag over the presidential palace. Sounds ominous. Realistically, how long can we expect the city to hold out? Are there more javelin rockets on the way to try and counter the second wave assault?

very strange whatever is going on. Anyway the Kremlin are saying that Putin ordered the Russian troops to stop advancing yesterday but have started again. I do wonder if that’s a cover story to the world to not admit they were stoped.

I was watching the former US ambassador to Ukraine on CNN last night and he says Putin and his lackeys simply don't understand Ukraine. He (Putin) has an idea of the country from around where things were 10 or 15 years ago and thinks the place is full of pro-Russian sympathisers who would love to rejoin the Russian empire.

I thought it was just me, thanks for opening a new thread.

I'm watching this all unfold with such a sense of disbelief. It's hard to see what Putin's endgame is here. Ftom the outside looking in, I can see an internal coup in Russia but I'm basing that on the sheer stupidity and needless lives lost in Ukraine, as well as international reaction.

Are the Russian people as aware of these developments given the reports of Facebook/Twitter etc being tightly controlled and the continued work of the Kremlin propaganda machine? I know there have been antiwar protests, so the Russian people (at least some of them) it seems don't condone these actions. Hard to see how an ego like Putin will react in what is becoming an increasingly obvious miscalculation on his behalf.

All current event involving Russia should be cancelled. or Russians should be banned. Not because we want to hurt the artists or sportsmen, but because Russian internal propaganda is selling a version from a parallel universe - the war is being sold as a pacekeeping mission against Ukrainian nazis. Explaining internally why they were banned from everything from GP, Eurovision, CL and World Cup qualifiers after "a pace keeping mission" would be hard. Check Russia Today, Interfax and TASS if you want to know how Russians see the current situation in thein mass-media. Or interviews in Moscow by BBC with Russian citizens asking them about the war. Some say it's a "bid for peace" and "Ukrainians are all terrorists". There is a ban on using word "war". The heroes of Snake Island were taken hostage, not bombed out of existence.

Please do no trust mywords - check the Russian official news agencies.
