Ukrainian MP Kyra Rudik on Sky News came acrosss very determined and resolute that they will not allow Russia to take Kiev easily.

She said many Russians have died and will go home in plastic bags..

The Ukrainian info so far has been on point. They know that sending misinformation out there is putting them in the same box as putin so while you won't hear much about their losses, they'll certainly let us know about the victories.

I see reports of Russian forces running out of fuel and food. One video shows a Ukrainian offering to tow a tank back to Russia.

Also seems reports that the Ghost of Ukraine is real and has shot down 6 Russian Jets.

I found it very hard to read people rejoicing and posting how great it was that a plane had been destroyed carrying 1 or maybe 2 hundred Russian troops. Some mother and fathers sons. Young men following orders of a mad man.

I am definitely not condoning Russia's actions and I am sure plenty of atrocities will be carried out by them.

I just can't see how this is going to end well, people claiming Ukraine will beat them back. Well I can't see this happening. Cant see the Russians turning around and accepting defeat. The more Russian troops are killed by weapons supplied from the west will in my opinion only strengthen Russian public support, hopefully it doesn't.

Best case scenario someone puts a bullet into the crazy dictator and therefore can pull out with being seen as a defeat.

Worse case scenario he decides all is lost and decides to press the button.

There are a lot of dodgy actors operating in Ireland: Russians, Islamic extremists, God knows what the Chinese are up to.

Anyway, protest at the Russian Embassy today. Trying to find details so I can organize meself, but I think at 3 PM. (Obviously, I don't advise leveling the place... in broad daylight.) P.S. Rathgar can be hostile territory at the best of times, so bring supplies. ;) :)

EDIT: Protest seems to be 1 PM in Rathgar and 2 PM O'Connell Street.

Yesterday 9000 persons crossed through the medyka border into the Ukraine, sighting on there entry papers to fight for Ukraine.

Mostly Ukraine but polosh British German French and Eastern European passport holders.

It was confirmed by polish ministry of defence .

Same is been reported at all crossing along the border.

Imagine the consequences for the Russian military in Ukraine , they are struggling against the Ukrainians imagine what happens when 80,000 + nato troops tanks and hundreds of aircraft come rolling in ,

Not sure how big a nato force would get in such a scenario but alot bigger than 80k I'm guessing

I know what you're getting at. By all accounts the disparity between the forces is such that the Ukranian resistance is somewhat pointless and the experts seem to agree that it will fall*. I'm no military strategist, so I don't know whether falling back to an insurgency right away is advisable or not in these circumstances, but I feel like some people are cheering events like they were watching FA Cup giant killing exploits or something.. like cheering on a child in a boxing match against a heavyweight. It doesn't sit right and that's even before you get into the poor Russian sods that are dying for their tin pot leader.

*There is also a propaganda component here.. while the Russian army is way bigger and ultimately more powerful, Ukraine is no slouch and has much more than molotv cocktails and random citizens with AK47s to rely on (and that's before the extra arms of the past few weeks arrived).

From the BBC

UK Armed Forces Minister James Heappey says the UK and 25 other countries have all agreed to provide more "humanitarian aid or lethal aid".

He told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that the UK would now work with those nations to coordinate how the military aid is delivered and "put into Ukrainian hands" - but gave no further details.

That's the realities you face when you invade another country. Yes they're soldiers who probably don't believe in the mission in some part but they are happy to land, and go kill Ukrainians with impunity. I'd rather watch them die than watching kids and infirm people being bombed and shot. So I don't feel one ounce of sympathy for anyone capable of doing this like I'm assuming most others don't.

The supreme historical irony in all of this. Putin, in trying to refashion some kind of Russian Imperium has merely succeeded in driving all the former Western Soviet republics, and the countries of the former Eastern bloc, into the Western camp forever.

A big difference watching this compared to the American invasions over the years. The Americans start with massive bombing and missile attacks, which can go on for weeks. Then when the opposition is really degraded and demoralised massive armies of ground troops go in, or they use disposable proxy armies. The Russians in contrast have gone in after a very light bombing campaign. I suspect that the battle plan may not have come from the Russian generals.
