Hybrid over 1.6L

Hi,

Is there currently a hybrid that has a diesel (or petrol) engine that has a cubic capacity of around 1.6 or greater ?

Corolla 1.8.

Camry/Rav4 2.5.

Ioniq - 1.6 petrol

Niro - 1.6 petrol

Prius - 1.8 petrol

The only ones I know of that are below the 1.6 litre mark are the Yaris Hybrid. They are a 1.5 litre (which is more than enough to move a small car like that around).

OP can you give the reasoning behind your question? Engine size has no bearing on tax, insurance or fuel consumption in a hybrid

Not OP but civil service mileage rates are higher if your engine is bigger than 1.6l. If the OP is claiming mileage expenses for work they’ll get more money for the same journey if their car has an engine >1.6l

Does it have to be a self charger? If a plug in hybrid counts then the BMW x5 has a 3 l engine.

The rates top out at 1501cc so no advantage going above 1600cc.

Is this for civil service rates or engine power go faster ratio? Because some of the hybrids are atkinson cycle engines, more efficient but less powerful which is made up for by the motor/battery.

The Toyotas are, I think the 2,4 l Mitsubishi outlander phev is also, not sure on that.

The BMW 330e is a good choice, great spec, beautiful interior whilst still having plenty of 21st century technology and great handling to boot.

Yeah, to echo the point above, the Toyota/Lexus hybrids tend to use Atkinson cycle engines which generate less power but are more fuel efficient than their cubic capacity would suggest.

Indeed that is why I am looking for a 1501 but normally you would just ask for a 1.6 as 1.501 is not a 'round number' in CC terms - thanks

Edit: It's actually tough enough - I had a water pump go last year which meant a timiing belt change, tyres are less hard wearing than I remember so those coupled with a service comes to almost a grand. Brake pads and discs are due as well along with a bearing - another grand. So It has to be 1501 or higher -

Slightly OT - But it does make for some interesting discussions moving forward as the Car fleet transitions to Hybrids and full electric.

How will companies adjust in terms of mileage and expenses etc.?

For example , my company provides a fuel card to certain staff (either based on role or seniority) but don't currently offer anything for someone driving an electric vehicle. I'm sure there are plenty of other firms like that.

How will firms cover the costs of Electric charging in future in the way they cover fuel costs today?

I know you can get a report from your car or charging unit showing usage etc. but it's not as clean as a fuel card and everyones cost per Kw/h will be different depending on who the provider is and what % of charging is done at home vs Public etc.

Well I'm not 'making' anything on it - Last month 4 tyres and a service - almost a grand - this month will be brakes and disks with one bearing.

Next month is Insurance so it goes on and on.

If I don't get a hybrid with over 1.501 then it wont pay.

DCI are offering a EV card and I think others also - I believe EasyGo have some sort of card for companies also.

Fair enough , but that only covers public charging. Most people will be doing the majority of their charging at home I'd have imagined.

I think EasyGo have that part covered. I saw something mentioned before that they can provide reports. Other option is staff member exports a report each month and provides it for their expenses but that's a bit more manual and could have delays etc.
