Can anyone explain to a dummy about this? When is it likely to happen?

also what are the affects of it? How could it potentially affect us? Could it put a halt to travel??

One would assume you mean between. The biggest issue for Putin is the potential spread of NATO including the likes of Ukraine and Georgia but what he wants resembles an anti-COVID restrictions march, full of incoherent demands and impossible to satisfy. So the West say no way. In the meantime he is making it look like he wants a war and some have concluded he could invade as early as next week. Even so we could be sitting here next week asking the same question as nobody really knows. As for us, well nothing really on the supply front, except a knock-on price increase but it would probably generate a level of economic instability.

The Russia thread is the last place someone would see a discussion on this.

Then why bother interacting on this thread, stick to the ones you want and stay out of the ones you don't it's fairly simple logic, if there was 20 threads what does it matter to you?

@Marymoore I'd also like to see a simple explanation as to what's going on as some aren't glued to news or boards and getting involved with the Russia thread is a non runner unless you've been in from the start or at least skimming through it to keep updated

In simple terms Vladimir Putin wants to invade ukraine and return it to complete Russian control along with several other states ....

Thanks, but that's not answering any of the questions posed by the OP

IF Russia do go into Ukraine, then the knock on effect for the majority of the EU, will be increased prices on food, oil, plus panic buying as per did we get enough loo roll during the early days of Covid. Short term, i would expect some travel to be disrupted. The big issue would be, will Putin stop at Ukraine or does he want to get all the former Soviet ruled countries back, like Lithuania, Latvia who are now part of NATO. Because if thats his ultimate goal. Armageddon
