DSP Illness Benefit Deduction

I'm a PAYE employee and received a much smaller payslip amount than usual today. I was issued an amended tax credit cert on the 25th. I compared it to one from September 2021 and see DSP Illness Benefit deducted from Rate Band 1.

My spouse was on the enhanced illness benefit with COVID a few weeks ago.

Have I essentially repaid her benefit? Will my payslip return to its previous level next month?

You've paid the tax that was due on her benefit.

Likely about 50% of the total benefit, depending on your income.

Yes, you'll go back to normal next month.

I just got an amended tax credit certificate and the DSP Illness Benefit is still there, deducted from my Rate Band 1.

I called Revenue and the agent said it needs to stay there until 2023.

Any ideas why? She didn't explain it well. The wife only used the benefit for 1 week.

Tax credits/bands are cumulative over the year, if they take it back off the cert, you would get the tax you paid on behalf of your spouse back, either in the next pay period or at the end of year when a Statement of liability is completed. So it will remain there always on your 2022 cert. Once her claim is closed, as long as the cert shows the right amount, and your spouse didn't or doesn't also get a matching deduction from her credits/bands for the year, then it is correct.
