Condenser dryer shutting down shortly after starting

My condenser tumble dryer shuts off a couple of minutes after starting. The door filter is emptied every time after a load. I've cleaned the filter under the unit too, ran water through it.

Any other troubleshooting I can do before calling someone to take a look?

You will likely find that the cost of repair is not worth it and just replace. How old is it? White goods seem to be lasting 5-7 years maximum in our house.

Had similar with a washing machine and the repairer told me on the phone it was likely the drum in my case and by the time all was done, it was cheaper to replace.

What manufacturer & model is it?

Is there a display on the dryer with an error code when it stops?

It's a Hoover VTC5911NB. Pretty basic model, so no digital display or error codes. Runs for 5 minutes and just stops working. There is a little heat in the fabrics. I guess a bit of fluff is blocking a sensor somewhere but can't see where

OK..... this may sound condescending/ apologys......but have you tried to run the dryer with just a few items in / or empty????

If this doesn't work...its most likely that the thermal switch has tripped.

If it IS the thermal switch.....its an 'easy' fix......there should be a reset button at rear of machine

Not condescending at all. I tried it with a reduced load but haven't tried empty. What is the purpose of running it on empty?

In relation to thermal switch, I don't know what that is. Is this something that would be a manual somewhere?

Can you put on a timed dry or try all switch positions. Often "automatically stop when dry" does not work properly, but timed works ok

Timed doesn't work either. Same result, runs for a couple of minutes then cuts out. Fabrics inside are warm and some liquid extracted.

So it is running with nothing in it now. Has ran for an hour. What does this imply? Moisture sensor broken?

First things first......does it "SOUND" ok......like it it louder than usual????

Noise will normally be an indication of a damaged / broken tension pulleys....this is from overloading the drum.

Try it with a small load...half of your usual load& see how that goes.

Don't get caught up in the " how old" is the dryer nonsense.......thats all irrelevant.......obviously the " usage" is the only factor that matters.

Tried a half load the other day, didn't work. No funny noises, sounds like normal. It's used maybe twice a week, towels and sheets, so doesn't have many miles on the clock.

I'll take the back off over the weekend and see if I can find the reset

Right ...its either 3 or 4 Phillips head screws....once you have the back panel removed ( obviously disconnect power supply first) you'll see a RED BUTTON.....pressing this will reset the heater.....youll hear a 'click 'when pressed.........dont be tempted to test the dryer with the panel removed.....reaffix the cover before reconnecting power supply & testing. One of the main reason for this occurring is people opening the door before the cycle finishes.

I took the back off, cleaned the connections, hoovered everything I could and it is running again. Could be that one of the vents was blocked. No idea what particular action I took that worked

Good that you have it working again, btw there is no reset button on these dryers, the cream colored stat goes open circuit and has to be replaced if you are getting no heat, what I have found with these dryers is the door filter mesh can cause them to trip out if it gets clogged, just wash it with warm water, and let the dryer run to end of cycle without stopping.
