Are used cars more expensive in Dublin?

Just looking through done deal I have noticed that there are better deals on similar used cars located outside of Dublin. It then got me thinking that it does make sense because of the higher concentration of population that wouldn't want to travel too far to view a car that they might not even like. Also, everything seems to be more expensive in Dublin so why wouldn't cars be too. Any thoughts?

One could say the larger market the more competitive it would be too. Cost of doing business would be more in Dublin as would staff wages but turnaround in stock would be expected to be greater. I'd certainly rather be selling 50 cars within the M50 than 50 cars in north Donegal.

Half the cars in the country are Dublin registered and are seen as more 'neutral'. They will therefore appeal to more buyers hence usually a higher price and why dealers often state 'D reg'.

Selling a very nice car on RN, LM, CN etc. plates will have reduced market appeal for many buyers outside those counties. I know many buyers don't care but many do.

I'm from Dublin and I'd probably prefer a car that was registered and is being sold in a rural area as the mileage is more likely to be longer distance as opposed to short suburban driving

I bought a lot of car in Dublin over the years and always got better value than down in Munster and of course far more selection!

I done my own test for you there, using a diesel avensis from years 2009 to 2018 on done deal. The most expensive avensis was located in Dublin on 4 occasions - notably in the cheaper older years.. 4 times out of 10 Dublin was dearer so 40%.

Toyota Avensis is probably not a great example as there is little demand for them in Dublin whereas down the country they think the sun shines out of them. Also, a diesel will be less popular in Dublin. No one living in the streets around me has a Toyota.

Not saying you're wrong, but 3 cars on my road alone have that 2.0 diesel engine. And up to recently as the avensis gets slightly older most taxi drivers here in dublin drove avensis

In general I've always found cork to be the cheapest in years gone by.

High concentration of uk imports being the main reason.

I'm sure this has probably changed now due to brexit.

Bought a care recently and looked at comparable models (spec, milage, year etc.) in Dublin & Cork.

Car value is ~19k.

Dublin was ~ 1-2k cheaper.

I guess it might depend on the general type of car we are both shopping for? Ive generally been looking for 2l petrol or bigger, semi sporty stuff and usually found them in the big smoke!
