Not bad. Not as nice as the Aston but still not bad. Looks like Mclaren have done something different with the sidepods too. Good to see.

So I see all the cars have steel wheels now no alloys like on the old cars. I know the wheels will be hid behind a wheelcobmver but will the wheels be strong enough? I wonder how long it will be before the covers eventually come off and we get alloy wheels on an F1 car again?

I give it a year or two and they will do it to get back lost audiences lol or because of Pitstone problems like the last time they had wheelcovers on the wheels.

    Peace and long life.

The matte paintwork on the McLaren is very nice.

Not on the Aston Martin either. Williams have had a special relationship with the team thanks to connection with Toto Wolff.

    This too shall pass.

A special relationship*? They ride them for engines and then take best driver. And Williams are still muck the last few years. Bet Williams feel real special.

*you're right, of course. Just being facetious

I know everyone blames Claire for the downturn but things really went sour when Bottas was swapped for Paddy Lowe.

    This too shall pass.

That was 2019 I think? There was a big spiel about Lowe joining and bringing the team forward again and then he couldn't even get one car made in time for testing. Then the car they arrived with was illegal and the team didnt even have any of the illegal spare parts. I dont think Russell even had his own seat for the first few races, I think Baku was the first and he got fùcked by the manhole cover and Kubica's wing mirrors (and other bits of car) just kept falling off throughout the year.

It was one of the worst cars ever in the sport.

Neither them or Aston have had it on the car, not since McLaren went back to them last year and AM (Racing Point, Force India etc) never ran the branding on the car.

One of Williams worst cars maybe, but definitely not one of the worst ever in the sport.

The Aston Martin sidepods look crazy from this angle!

Sure there has been much slower cars in terms of speed but in terms of the actual car build it was a shambles, there was almost always some parts that were either damaged or worn out or just missing entirely as they spent the whole year struggling for replacement parts.

Hispania and Minardi were chronically slow but I dont remember the car itself being such a mess.

Super Aguri in '06 would be the closest in terms of just being an utter shambles of a car.

For all the talk about restrictive regulations, it's interesting to see the very divergent designs of the Aston Martin and the McLaren. Seems like suspension and sidepods will be the battleground this year, neither of which are really that tweakable mid-season.

The Aston is my favourite looking car so far.

Anyway, Alpine have confirmed today that BWT will be the teams title sponsor. I hope their livery will remain mostly blue, with some pink on the car.

Vettel is no longer a BWT ambassador either, so no more pink designs.

The floor and underside of the car will play a massive role this year with the ground effect. What you can't see will be more important that what you can, aerodynamically speaking.

I'd expect some "Pink Panther" fun to be had. I seem to recall they put a cat image on the side pod back in the Renault days, going back to Palmer times.

And as for the worst car to turn up for a Grand Prix, Mastercard Lola 1997. (Worked well for Jordan though as they managed to nab the Mastercard sponsorship later that year)

    This too shall pass.

McClaren best looking car for me. I do like the orange look. Although their overalls are muck.

People talking about the Aston being so good looking, I thing the overhead view and the side pods are rotten. To each their own...

The overhead side by side shows some major difference in bodywork packaging, esp For two cars with the same engine

One thing I feel F1 is missing a trick on - Hot Wheels style toy cars. Each year bring out a new range with the new liveries and designs. I know I'd certainly buy a few, and would've definitely had when the kids were younger (they had every single "Cars" (movie) character at one point).

I know you can buy decent models and so on, but I'm talking about the little die cast metal, throw them around the room and they don't get damaged type.

    Or do they exist?

I’m into these new rules, the cars look so much better and cleaner.

That was 2017. Bottas joined Mercedes in 2017 anyway to replace Nico Rosberg who retired after 2016. No idea about when Paddy Lowe joined Williams do but I know it did not work out.

Aye. 20% smaller in all dimensions and they'd be beautiful. :P

And now there is a leak of the Alpha Tauri, which launches Monday. Looks to have sidepods something like the Aston. Can't really see the rear, but looks kind of like the Haas

So looking at an overhead comparison view of the Aston Martin and Mclaren cars and is it me or does the Halo on the Mclaren look shorter but better integrated than the one on the Aston? Maybe it's just the blue paint hiding the rest of the Halo better on the Mclaren.

I think it’s the curve on the orange paint giving the impression that it’s joining the body there but looking closer it appears to be very much the same as the AM

Yes I think it is just very clever use of paint by Mclaren. I would say that all the Halos are all the same. I wonder will any off the other teams yet to reveal cars also do something clever like this.

Yes they sure are. I really want to know what Aston Martin are doing with all that extra space they have.
