Just a general Q....I only use 1300-1500Kwh p.a. and I'm out during the day until 4pm. Hope to get an EV within the next year or two, which based on my mileage would mean an additional 3500KWh p.a. Is it worth my while even getting PV system if I'm out all day or would it would be cheaper and more effective to just charge the EV using night rate electricity instead of through PV battery system. Sorry, I'm totally boggled and under time pressure with battery grant deadline on Tues.

You really are a low consumption user 4kws a day at best...not sure about PV panels. Your electric car charging at night rate would be very reasonable. But I'm no expert 👍

So after several quotes and several jokers I am down to either of the following

    18x345w JA Solar 6.21kw

    6kw Solis Inverter

    10Kw Puredrive Battery

    Eddi

    €13200 before grant, €10,200 after

    18x370w JA Solar 6.66kw

    5kw GivEnergy Inverter

    8.2Kw GivEnergy Battery

    Eddi

    €13000 before grant, €10,000 after

Which would you choose and why? Bigger battery or bigger array?

Go for the bigger battery. The panels are only 0.4kWp in the difference.

    First quote is good value.

    First, bigger inverter and battery.

You better get a move on as the battery grant is going on the 15th of February.

They're both decent, but yeah first one is very good.

Now @Beach. I hope you saw @keg quote above

    Hi,

Mayo Area, with south facing roof, no shadows.

I use about 4200 units a year, I use solar thermal panels for hot water.

I work from home, usage during the day is typically 0.5 kW and is fairly steady. Useage in late evening is about 0.6 kW and at night it is about 0.3 kW.

I have a garage roof which would also be useful, west facing.

I hope to buy an EV next year. Possibly two EVs in the next 3-4 years.

I got my first quote this week from a Sligo based firm:

    12 Solarwatt panels 4.32 kWp

    3.7kw inverter

    4.5 kWh battery

After SEAI 3000 grant price is 8500e inc VAT.

Would love some opinions and suggestions of where else I can go to get a good quality install at a decent price

Firstly the inverter is too small for your system. Why they'd even suggest that for you is strange. Maybe a typo?

In any case the overall quote is terrible.

It should be 6k max after grant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,890 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Very common to undersized the inverter a bit. Most can handle more than the specified max so a 3.7kw inverter for a 4.3kwp system is not unusual.

That said I'd always recommend up sizing the inverter to future proof for expansion. Its a regret of mine that I didn't.

Also "max €6k" is optimistic. Even applying the €1k guidance that system would be more than €6k and the guidance is becoming harder to achieve due to rising costs. Personally for that system I'd have said anything under €7k is very reasonable.

@MTK_1966 it's not a terrible quote, but it's certainly not a good one. If you're after recommendations near Sligo, then you're well placed for the Enniskillen lads that a few here have used.

Another question - I am condering adding panels on both my house roof (south facing) and garage roof (west facing). There is a duct that brings cables/pipes from garage to house but i suspect it is "full", with water, electric cable and a 10 BaseT. How easy is it to integrate the two setups so that 1 battery can be used, the garage and the house? I presume I would need to add a new electric cable from house to garage. Will this significantly change the costs of any quote?

Any chance you could post the most expensive ones you got just for a laugh.

    One final quote

    12 x Trina 400w panels

    1 z 5kw Solis Inverter

    1 x 2.4kwh pylontech battery

1 x Solar boost hot water diverter

    Vab der valk mouting system

Cheery picker hire. Connected to ESB. BER included

    Cost €9967 before grant.

    Hi all,

Could someone PM me some recommended installers for a PV setup (maybe battery too) in the south of the country. Thanks

Never dismisse the battery. I for one think its vital as part of a solar pv setup.

Think this is decent enough. Surprised with grant reduction come Tuesday, is this correct?

    16 panels 345 watt 5.52 kw.ja solar

    5 kw pure drive battery

    5 kw solis hybrid inverter

    eddi water diverter

    wi fi dongle

    price 11900euros inc.vat.

    grant 3000 euros

    total 8900 euros

    grant 2400 after tuesday

Yep grant is changing on Tuesday at COB. The 600 euro for the battery is going.

20 x 360 watt REC panels (7.2KW) Solis 6kw and Dyness 10kwh battery for €13,620 including vat. So €10,620 after grant.

    Or 20x Longi 365 panels (7.3KW), 12900e, so 9900 after grant

    😎

It's pretty good, but try a bit of haggling. You don't ask, you don't get.
