It’s gonna be exciting. From Adam McKay, director of ‘The Big Short’ and ‘Vice’ comes a story about the rise of basketball Hall Of Famer Magic Johnson (Quincy Isaiah) and the lengths one man (John C. Reilly) will go in pursuit of securing a basketball dynasty.

This is one all star cast

The ensemble cast include John C. Reilly as Jerry Buss; Quincy Isaiah as Magic Johnson; Jason Clarke as Jerry West; Adrien Brody as Pat Riley; Gaby Hoffman as Claire Rothman; Tracy Letts as Jack McKinney; Jason Segel as Paul Westhead; Julianne Nicholson; Hadley Robinson as Jeanie Buss; Dr. Solomon Hughes as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar; Tamera Tomakili as Earletha “Cookie” Kelly; Brett Cullen as Bill Sharman; Stephen Adly Guirgis as Frank Mariani; Joey Brooks as Lon Rosen; Sarah Ramos as Cheryl Pistono; Spencer Garrett as Chick Hearn; Molly Gordon as Linda Zafrani; DeVaughn Nixon as his dad Norm Nixon; Delante Desouza as Michael Cooper; Jimel Atkins as Jamaal Wilkes; Austin Aaron as Mark Landsberger and Jon Young as Brad Holland; with Rob Morgan as Earvin Johnson Sr. and Sally Field as Jessie Buss.

Fresh after finally watching the Best of Enemies 30 for 30 on the Celtics-Lakers rivalry, I know I will love this.

Will it be aired over here?

Loving it so far. It's absolute class. John C Reilly is fantastic as Jerry Buss. Some comedy moments too. The regular breaking of the fourth wall and the recreation of the Airplane Scene with Kareem and the kid 🤣 Generally love shows set in this period. Was a big fan of the Deuce (Which was also a HBO show). The attention to detail is always terrific with costumes and sets whenever HBO are involved. Have first four episodes watched. Looking forward to seeing the rest.

Almost as good as his version of Raglan Road :)

Fun fact! Norm Nixon is played by his real-life son DeVaughn

Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty is about as fun and stylish as TV gets. Boogie Nights meets basketball. What more could you want to get you in the mood for summer?

Buss could easily come across as a Me Too monster but the writers and Reilly aren't allowing a one dimensional perspective.

Two episodes in and I love it.

As someone else mentioned, the occasional breaking the fourth wall and attention to detail are both excellent. What an era for the sport.

I saw that earlier and supposed to be about the late 90s/early 2000s era.Kobe ,Shaq,Phil Jackson.

They must be planning to bring season one up to probably 1991 .

Wood Harris (Avon Barksdale from the Wire) plays Spencer Haywood in the series. An unbelievable cast overall.

Loving the rivalry with the Celtics and how they are portrayed as such antagonists. Red Auerbach played by Michael Chikliss in particular is fantastic as is the actor who plays Larry Bird.

Chiklis's couple of appearances on this is the best thing he has done sine The Shield ended.

I would love to hear from the real Kareem and Magic and see what they think of the two actors portraying them

Jerry West isn't impressed with the portrait of him and looking for a retraction and an apology and is seeking damages

Up to episode four when they introduce Jack mcKinney and the training camp.

Roared laughing when Buss' ex-wife arrived at the resort and when he stood up claiming that he'd always chose his family his pants fell down.

Kareem comes across as some diva in it. Would fit in well at Old Trafford.

Jeanie Buss posed for Playboy herself in the 1990s. I hope that horny goat Jerry didn't buy a copy of that edition.

I started watching when I saw Adrien Brody was in it and I wasn't disappointed. This is one of his best performances as Pat Riley imo. Jason Segel is decent as well, had only seen him in light comedy roles before.

Very enjoyable overall although obviously its a light adaptation in terms of portraying people as they really were. Where's Larry Bird's goofy smile? He's in a perma-sulk in this depiction.

Kareem Abdul-Jaabar said they depicted him as a "pompous prick".

The Jerry West portrayal seems have to attracted the most controversy. I guess its just funnier to have him losing the head all the time but you could see why the real him wouldn't be impressed with being portrayed that way.

The scene between Kareem & Spencer is as good as you will get.

has a second series been commissioned?? hope so, great TV esp for someone what a short attention span like moi😙

*the star of the show for me is Jason Clarke as neurotic manic depressive Jerry West almost comical the way he plays him

I read somewhere that season two would be about the early 2000's team.Shaq,Kobe ,Phil Jackson etc.

I'd have liked to see another season set in the 80s ,with this team and Riley .

I'd like to see them go from the 80s through the 90s. Basically, I want to see a 90s era Jeanie posing for Playboy!

Kobe has already made an appearance on the show also but I think they may need to recast 😂

Jerry is gas in it, really hope they continue on with that decade or do the 90s and play it up in that sequence.
