    He's an absolute dick.

But talk about something being blown out of all proportion.

Lynch mobs left, right and center. The majority having nothing better to do with their shite lives.

    100%, if they aren't outraged and want someone's career/life ended, they're busy spouting shite like #mentalhealth #bekind #heretolisten

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 516 ✭✭✭BattleCorp1

He kicked a cat. He shouldn't have. He's been fined an awful lot of money and he'll end up losing a lot more than just the €250k. The kind of money most of us will never save in our lifetime. But people are going so far over the top it isn't funny.

Do we want everyone who breaks a law or does something stupid to lose everything?

He kicked a cat. Someone else kicked a dog. Some farmer slapped a cow with a stick. Somebody else broke the speed limit. Somebody else claimed a weeks dole they weren't entitled to. Somebody else called in sick when there was nothing wrong with them. There's nobody whiter than white. Everyone has made some sort of mistake/broke a law. Do we expect all of them to be hanged, drawn and quartered? There's people on here hoping that he loses everything because of this.

    Get a grip.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,644 ✭✭✭happyoutscan

Unhinged is how I would describe anyone wishing he would lose everything over this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 728 ✭✭✭bertiebomber

If you own a pet you should be kind and decent to him and if you cant be that, re home him to someone who would appreciate him. Its that simple really but hes an overpaid over indulged idiot who kicks a ball around. no doubt he probably roughs his girlfriend around too. Some people believe money makes them invincible & sadly society endorses this.

He does need to be sacked, so does his brither, along with any other people in position of "role models" for impressionable people ie young kids.

Like it or not, in the 5 or 10 years people like sports personalities, pop stars, YouTubers etc need to be held personally responsible for their behaviour on and off screen.

I'm not a major cat person, Im a dog person. I have a cat, got under duress and he is the only cat i like. If I found out anyone deliberately hurt him, I would kill them.

People comparing this to punishments people got years ago is laughable, trying to compare it to the events of a few weeks ago and the DV case, cannot be done. There would currently be a media blackout and advisory not to discuss on any media platforms die to impending criminal proceedings, in this case the cops are not Investigating.

Is it racism? NO has a white famous footballer abused an animal and been let off with no public outcry in recent weeks? No that I'm aware off or has a case been in the media

Have white people abused animals and been fined and publicly shamed by thr press in recent times, yes. In fact I think some have been jailed and definitely some have lost jobs.

Doo I think his mate was playing the race card, no I don't his fried could have worded it better , I think he was trying to say that zouma deserves what he got and more. He was also saying he would like to see the same outcry and media pressure applied to those who have used racist and xenophobic slurs

In what way is he overpaid? Who overindulges him?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,177 ✭✭✭Fandymo

Who decides he's a "role model"? You and the rest of the Boards witch hunt? Because he can kick a football well he automatically has to be a role model??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 728 ✭✭✭bertiebomber

250K per week to kick a football and all his yes men all kissing his ass you see it with all footballers black white or green....... dont bother debating thsi money is the God of modern society.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,177 ✭✭✭Fandymo

So you'd prefer if the money earned by football clubs, on the back of the players, went directly to some dodgy chairman? The soft porn magnate dildo brothers in West Ham's case??

What he did was inexcusable and disgusting (and I am saying that as someone who is certainly not an animal lover), but you have to admit that the outrage is overblown at this stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 516 ✭✭✭BattleCorp1

Perfect example of an over the top reaction.

The begrudgery is strong with you. He earns very good money because he is a good player in a profession that pays well. I'm not defending him kicking the cat, I'm just pointing out your begrudgery. We'd all love to be on that kind of money.

If Zouma worked a minimum wage job, and was struggling to put food on the table for his family, would you be happy for him to be sacked?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,521 ✭✭✭zv2

The need for food cannot be compared to deliberate cruelty. Animals kill in the wild but they are not deliberately cruel. This was wanton cruelty, evil.

It looks like history is starting up again.

i hear you but the way the animals we eat are kept is seriously cruel on them, especially pigs and hens, the way we get milk is seriously cruel, i'm not a vegan as was suggested earlier but i'm also not a hypocrite and this incident has made me think about how my food is coming to me. Go into the hunting section here and read how they shoot deer and fox's and hope not to wound them so they dont die a slow death, you think an uneducated footballer kicking a cat is worse than all of this ? It's terrible of course but i dont think it's worse and i dont think he deserves to be lynched for it

The thing is, we don't need animal foods. This is an established fact backed by dietetic associations around the world. So the harm caused to animals in animal agriculture is completely unnecessary and is paid for by consumers who eat these products out of want, not need.

125K. Not sure why people keep saying 250k per week and 500k total. He is on 125K per week so the fine was 250K total.

A lot of WH players are now looking for a wage increase 🤣

This doofus will ultimately be down millions as he has permanently damaged his brand for advertising purposes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,521 ✭✭✭zv2

Yes, I agree with most of what you are saying but there is still a distinction between cruelty by neglect or indifference and what he done which was deliberate sadism and evil. I disagree with all mistreatment of animals and excuse none of it. But sadism is even worse than criminal indifference.

It looks like history is starting up again.

He only earns big money because as a professional footballer the publics eyes are on him. If nobody was interested in football he would be back in France doing some ordinary job. With that fame comes responsibility. All he has to do with his privileged life is behave himself and play well for his team. It shouldn’t be that difficult for him. When he f**ks up the publics eyes will still be on him and he will be called out on it.

I am glad he was fined by his club, I am glad he is losing sponsors and I hope he is prosecuted in England or France.

Have you never seen a cat play with a mouse they've caught? That is nothing to do with hunger.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 276 ✭✭SnazzyPig

"I have a cat, got under duress and he is the only cat i like. If I found out anyone deliberately hurt him, I would kill them."

I think this is the most ridiculous thing I have ever read on Boards.

The mad thing I am seeing is folks conflating this man's cruelty to animals with racism. Head hurts!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,177 ✭✭✭Fandymo

His team mate brought up the comparison. There have been players who have been racist on the pitch, and their team came out in t-shirts before the next game supporting him. He was subsequently found guilty and banned for 8 games. There was no witch hunt for him or his team to lose everything, there was no widespread calls to sack him, there was no widespread hoping for him to be badly injured, all of which we've seen in here.

This does not concern "food" whatsoever whether animal, vegetable or mineral. Zouma wasn't found eating the cat. He was seen to be deliberately kicking and slapping the cat and laughing about it.

Zuoma would be equally criticised if he kicked a cow, a cat or even a camel. So stop using the thread to repeatedly preach nonsense about what you think what people should and shouldn't eat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 559 ✭✭✭BurgerFace

Not only that but when you point out the OTT hysteria of these people they come back with sh1t like "Oh, I suppose you want him to get a medal!"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 559 ✭✭✭BurgerFace

"No doubt" he "probably" roughs his girlfriend around.

So he's definitely probably abusive to his missus? That's some verbal diarrhoea right there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 559 ✭✭✭BurgerFace

Funnily enough he might actually feature in cat food commercials in the future. Some exec for Whiskas might think it tongue in cheek to have him appear in an ad being an indentured servant to a group of cats who routinely threaten him with violence before feeding time. 😋

I wasn't the one who made the initial link between an act of cruelty and people paying for similar/worse to happen to other animals daily. I believe the poster who initially mentioned that has stated they aren't vegan. It's a fair observation for anyone to make, vegan or not. I'm not sure what "preaching" you're referring to? And what part of what I'm saying doesn't make sense to you?

This guy caused harm to someone when it wasn't necessary to cause harm to them and appeared to get some kind of pleasure out of doing so. For those who are aware that it's not necessary to exploit animals for health/longevity etc, but continue to contribute to the harm being caused to animals through their buying choices, making purchases for such reasons as sensory pleasure, it's not dissimilar. I'd say the biggest difference between these actions is that one form of exploitation is legal as well as culturally and socially acceptable, and the other isn't.

that's a good idea ! Imagine he scored and did a kick the cat celebration

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,036 ✭✭✭growleaves

@katiek102010 'I have a cat, got under duress and he is the only cat i like. If I found out anyone deliberately hurt him, I would kill them.'

    You're a psycho.
