Old pictures from Dublin Schools c. 1930

I inherited a large photo collection from my grandparents family since they past on a number of years back.

Not only is this a bountiful treasure for my genealogy interests, I believe that there are a number of images that may suit other people's interests (slim chance).

For example I have:

First and Second Class school year photographs for St. Lorcan O'Toole in Dublin from 1930 - 1931, boys classes.

A class photograph from the school my great-aunt attended (could be Louth, most likely Dublin) c. 1930s

A class photograph from O'Connell School in Dublin, c. 1940.

I'm pretty sure there are a couple more in my archive that I have not scanned yet.

My main question is where would be the best place to share these, so that anyone interested may find them?

The National Library accepts donations of material, including photos. They have a booklet/guide on what is required and of interest to them.

What brilliant photos! I couldn't help noticing the girls' hob-nail boots!! The boys boots are highly polished in the first photo, polished until they could see their faces in them I'll bet! Lovely to see.

Yes, something I also noticed when I was posting. Perhaps it was the lucky few with shoes were lined up at the front.

I know that my Clare-based relatives wouldn't have had the nice shiny shoes around the same time.

You could also try the Dublin county archives: Fingal, Pearse St, Tallaght, Dun Laoghaire.

The first pic is of a first holy communion class hence the shiny shoes and clean clothes. a vast difference to the 2nd class photo below it.

The first picture is Confirmation I think . It says La an Easpuig , the day of the bishop . The lads also look about 11 or 12

hard to tell really. I said communion because the OP said it was a first class photo.

Yes its hard to tell but I think its a 5th or 6th class . The rosettes are not white so am guessing they are red . In my day we called Confirmation “ ag dul faoi lamh on Easpaig “ So I am thinking it not 1st but a 6 th class photo

My great-uncles is in the picture and was born 1919 so he would indeed be 11/12 in the picture.

Saying that, I can't remember what the typical Communion or Confirmation ages are.

My mam was born in 1916 . She made her communion at about 7 years of age and Confirmation at about 11

The boys wore white rosettes for Communion and red for Confirmation

The rosettes are not white so my guess is the boys are in 5 th or 6 th class and around 11-12

I found two more photos that sort of clear this up. Both are of my grand-uncle Pierce.

Writing on rear "7y 9mth 21 May"

I would say this is 1st Holy Communion (never imagined he was such a curly-headed child!)

Writing on rear "11y 7mth"

This must be his Confirmation. And this is the same clothing he is wearing in the group photo

This is the LC class of O'Connell Schools 1951 (possibly 1952).

OP, I would also contact the schools, particularly Larrier's and OCS. They both have good archives.
