Telematics 'black box' insurance - cancellation due to "dangerous speeding events"

I'd greatly appreciate any help/info anyone can provide on this topic.

I'm wondering what happens if your car insurance policy is cancelled by your insurer due to having too many "dangerous speeding events" detected by their black box. Will this affect talking out insurance with another provider (i.e. do you/they have to disclose that to the other insurance company and if so can that affect your quote?).

Presumably NCB etc isn't affected but if your policy is cancelled you wouldn't get your NCB for that current year correct?

Is there any mechanism to dispute their black box technology if you have concerns around it's accuracy?

When you are purchasing insurance, you're asked if you have ever had insurance cancelled by another company. Ever. Not just the past 5 years or the like. It's on your record for life.

There was articles in UK media about them not being at all accurate. If you have a genuine case with them I'd complain and seek evidence, it will seriously damage your insurance prospects in the future if they are allowed get away with it in error.

I also remember BBC Watchdog covering them, a 1.4 litre Skoda Fabia reported as doing 119mph despite it's top speed being lower from Skoda.

Wouldn't trust one of those as far as I could throw it. The company I work for (automotive electronics) specifically had to redesign a part as it was interfering with a the GPS of a specific car model.

Imagine doing 121km/h and a deer runs out in front of the car, and the insurance company not paying out.

Definitely. In my first few years of driving the black box insurance was half the price of regular insurance.

There was a mileage limit of 8,000km per year, but you got up to 300km extra per month depending on your driving style. I always broke the speed limit and nothing was ever said to me. The only time I ever got a warning was when I drove from Dublin to Wexford above the speed limit the whole way.

Yeah, me personally I would recommend them if your starting out, but if your doing big mileage you will run out of kilometres so it would be best to look at other companies
