We are thinking of moving our young family to killinard. Does anyone have any information about the small village? Is it a nice place to live? Is portalington a good town to be close to? Is there a nice sense of community? And is it good to bring up children in. Any tips hints or opnions would be much appreciated 🙂

We're not creating a forum for the sake of this. We already have a Laois forum, so try asking there instead:

Welcome to Boards @Rainbow45 I have noved your query to the Laois forum for you where you might get some replies.

Yes its a small village with a fantastic school and lively sporting community.

Port is only a few miles away and all you need is here with a great coffee shop and service station close in Ballybrittas.

Its a very nice town. Close to Portarlington for weekly shopping.

We are also looking at buying in Killenard (we're not from Laois, but it's equi-distant from our respective home counties and handy for work). We've spent time there, love the village feel, the small school and local GAA club and everything.

The one thing holding us back is that we think it'll be perfect while our kids are small, but we're worried it'll be too quiet for teenagers (in a few years). I know there are 3 buses to and from Portarlington each week day and they'll eventually go to secondary school in Portarlington.

Does anyone here have teenagers in Killenard? How are you and they managing over the summer? Are they going stir crazy or do they have enough friends nearby to keep them occupied? Ours are into GAA but the pitch is a bit away from the village…

    Thank you in advance!!
