    A long story..

But i was quoted about 1500 euro plus vat for fitting of a 6kw system with battery, which frankly affirms my belief that electricians get money for jam

When was your house built? The BER requirement is that your house was built (ESB connection) prior to 2011.

However the revised PV grant announced in the budget does away with the requirement for the BER and increases the maximum year for the property to built before 2021. The scheme hasn't been implemented yet by SEAI but it will be due in the next few months.

I’m struggling in Cork to get a quote that comes anywhere near the standard suggested here, can anyone DM a recommendation please? Also what’s the situation with installing panels over attic vents? I know it’s against SEAI regulations, but is it dangerous?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,469 ✭✭✭MAULBROOK

Any decent installer should be able to move the vents, just make them aware of it as the SEAI might red flag it.

Sadly price have gone up like everything else. The base line formula on price is out of date.

    Dm sent

    NOTE TO NEWBIES

IMO, If looking for about 3kWp, then go the SaaS (Solar as a Service) and maybe buy it out. You can add batteries via a separate Storage Inverter like the Sofar ME3000.

The guideline of €1k per 1kWp appears to be found moreso with large 5kWp and bigger systems.

Get quotes without battery storage. Like SaaS, you can add battery storage later if it's bumping up the price stupidly

It's somewhat pointless posting details of outrageous quotes here too. Maybe just look for a DM

€1200 per KW is their base line now after grant for a 2.92kw system

That's a beast of a system, don't forget to pop up in the various production threads to put us all to shame.

Hi, I received this quote recently, but not sure if I'm getting a good deal. Includes installation and all the usual warrantees etc.Can someone advise please:

    Battery: 5.0 KW Huawei Luna2000-5-S0

    Inverter:SUN2000-6KTL-L1 (Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.)

    My energy Eddi diverter

I got a few quotes for similar system specs, (e.g. 7.2kw panels, 6kw Hybrid Inverter, 5kw battery). Three quotes were between €10,100 and €10,575 after grant.

Approx how much should I pay for system this size? It's am easy east/west install with handy access on a bungalow so no scaffolding required. I've so far received 2 quotes in and around this this price. Should I be haggling, or do these solar guys typically haggle?

Working out the price of one of their panels including installation, works out at over 400 euro, when I've seen them at almost 1/3 of this price online.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 64 ✭✭Jayo2011

They include a diverter for hot water worth approx 600-700 euro over your system quotes. Do you think they should be shaving another 2k off my quotes or push for extra panels to be included?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,454 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Shouldn't be paying more than €10-10.5k for that.

Any advice on solar optimizers anyone?

I'm told in quotes that a solar optimizer on each side of the roof prevents shading issue. My gripe with this is if i have say 10 panels on west side of roof each generating say 200w of electricity each. Then if my chimney partially shades one of my panels by 50%, so it is only generating 100w of electricity, that means every other panel in array operating off that optimizer can then only generate 100w of energy each while the shaded panel remains shaded. Does it not therefore make more sense to add individual optimizers to each panel so they can generate independently? Even a single small stubborn cloud can cause enough shading cause a significant reduction in generation to a solar array

I've been quoted anything between 20-60 euro for optimizers, with one installer stating they would possibly include the optimizers for free on a larger 7kw system.

Any advice on optimizers/mini inverters please

Yeah my quotes were without the water diverter. However that should only be 400-500 extra. Yes I think 2k over priced.

    Rec panel 360w

    longi 365w

    solarwat 370w.

rec most expensive. I assume they are all the same ultimately? With a shorter warranty on cheaper ones?

I'm inclined to go for biggest W, unless there’s some reason to avoid certain panel?

    😎

The ones I happen to purchase Jinko 350w

    Efficiency 20.1

    30 year efficiency

    25 year manufacturers warranty

Just picked my zappi v2 tethered

    €650 all in.

Are they hard to setup ? Maybe I'll you tube it 👍

Going to replace it for my Garo the weekend 🤞☀️

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,765 ✭✭✭championc

Very easy. Just run it into it's own MCB. Current regulations now state that it should hang off an AC disconnect. You might need CT Clamps too, but these are simple two wire connections

The first thing is that shading of an amount as small as a tennis ball can kill the output.

Secondly, if only 200w dropped to 100w. 200w is more likely to drop to 20w.

Search YouTube for videos on Tigo optimizers and you should find some explaining them clearly
