I picked up a nasty virus in 2018 which took about 6 months to get fully over. I am convinced I picked this up on public transport. I expect that I will continue to wear a mask in future on packed public transport. Particularly in winter.

i have also been one of those advocating for opening up but common sense will mean protection. Not that worried about planes but airport queues are a different matter.

One observation I had earlier when we went out for dinner is that older people who came into the pub/restaurant mostly wore masks but younger people didn’t. None of the staff were sure whether the customers had to wear masks or not.

I completely agree that if some people want to wear masks in situations where it isn’t mandatory then it’s up to them.

Expect to see sun glasses and masks for future episodes of Garda Patrol and Crime Watch.

Over the past few two years we had people who didn't believe in restrictions, covid, the numbers, etc However I don't find people care if somebody else wears a mask they just don't want to wear one themselves or be judged for not wearing one.

I wouldn't say mask usage has collapsed. But over this weekend, I've been to the library, swimming pool, blanch center, Ratoath garden center and a few local shops. And I've definitely seen less people wearing them. Before I'd see the odd person and they'd always stand out. Over the weekend I seen loads without them. Myself being one of them. I'm done with them for shops and that. Buses and clinical environments, I'll still wear one as long as there is a requirement.

Strangely enough, I'd say this weekend stands out as a time period where I've seen the most amount of people wearing masks outdoors. Not sure why. But I seen loads of people outside wearing masks.

Maybe as said earlier these are people who are not sure if they are still infectious or not or people who are vulnerable?

Numbers infected are still high , and while it is not a serious jnfection for many , there are people who need to go to the shops , pharmacy etc who are vulnerable and don't want to be taking any risks .

That is now their call to make and others will have to get used to the sight of some wearing masks outside of areas where it is deemed necessary .

Personally will only be wearing them where I have to as am sick and sore from them , but would not discourage anyone else from protecting themselves or others as they see fit .

I am not saying you are saying anything about those wearing masks still btw .

Can you catch Omicron twice?(esp if unvaccinated)

If so ,and you had vulnerable friends or family would you still need to take precautions?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,783 ✭✭✭GoneHome

Yes it would seem you can catch Omicron more than once, my own nephew has got it twice, he was just over the first dose of it and got it again in a more severe form five weeks later, not nice I can tell you.

Is this the same nephew that told you about the lockdowns that never happened?

Pretty much everyone dropped masks here immediately on Saturday. If I see someone wearing them now I'll assume they're recently/currently infected or close contacts following that guidance.

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." ~C.S. Lewis

Even though your not told what variant it is and omicron has only been around for about 2 months, yet you know someone who's got Omicrom twice in 5 weeks.

Why do I get the sense that your posting more rubbish abit like every other post you put up about a family member telling you lockdown was coming and the same family member saying how they're full time job in the gardai after 8pm was checking pubs were close.

My partner was in Scotland over the weekend. Rural area, kept herself to herself no pubs or nightclubs etc.

Serious problem with a tooth. Her dentist won’t see her for 3 weeks. However if she wasn’t in Scotland but spent all weekend in a packed pub and nightclub she would have got an appointment tomorrow 🤣🤣

Well Pat Kenny has got half the show out of Covid.

Hospital numbers up to 885, is there nothing to be said for a little Lockdown, just for old times sake

That's extremely unlikely. Anyone who caught Covid 6 weeks or more ago almost certainly caught Delta as that was still by far and away the most dominant strain at the time. (Omicron became dominant at 52% 5 weeks ago.) If they caught Covid again 5 weeks later then, without doubt, they caught Delta the first time.

    ICU down to 76.

Donnelly said yesteday that the majority in ICU are long haul patients that would have been admitted due to Delta

All the swabbing staff must have been down the pub

I presume staff in places like hospitals & nursing homes will continue to wear masks. Are masks done away with in just about all other workplaces now?

All testing will start to drop off pretty strongly at this stage. For the most part, people will only be getting tested if they're symptomatic and even then they'll be more likely to use antigens unless they need to talk to a doctor.

If you're boosted and so is everyone else you know, there's little benefit in testing for the individual at this stage. And people are less afraid of covid which means they're more comfortable when they have symptoms just closing the front door and taking a few days off.

Internationally, disemploying the unvaccinated has helped to pile the pressure on supply chains as there are less and less truckers allowed to transport loads.

Throughout history dictatorial set-ups were usually characterised by inefficiency which is something Westerners don't really have any experience of, but if we continue down this route we could eventually have malfunctioning daily lives. Perhaps food queues or worse?

I noticed that while out walking this weekend too. The only thing I can think of is that these are people who have rarely left the house for a stroll in the past 2 years. Quite a sad thought.

Maybe they are close contacts who are allowed out but advised to wear masks

One thing I learned throughout this is not to judge what others feel is right for them to do

I heard an ad on the radio about restrictions lifting. About the household vidistor restrictions - would it not be worth their while to remind people if there's sickness in the home not to have visitors over? Like reduce household visitors during sickness in as much as possible. I know elderly people may not be able to reduce visitors due to people coming in to care fore them. In as much as possible. Doesn't that make sense. That's a sound piece of health guidance that can be carried over from the pandemic and bring it forward into every day living. Just to reduce sickness spreading. Especially during flu seasons. If the government is relying on common sense from the population, some people will show common sense but others seriously lack it.

    Wrong!

Do you feel better about yourself judging others for wearing masks?
