Joe is just a useless interviewer. Can he not let us know what exactly happened? A woman was attacked is all I know. Where, what time, type of area, how do we think he did it etc?

this sick bastid needs a life sentence, but we all know that our justice system hands these animals disgustingly lenient sentences..

Bizzare , what is the story behind this, Joe mentioned 4 victims 🤔 then proceeded to incorrectly say this Cawlur was sexually assaulted, WTF

Is maith an scáthán súil charad.

This woman sounds like she needs counselling from a professional rather than the blunt lack of social skills from our host. Must be a terrible thing to go through and this probably isn't the place to get the help she needs.

said it the other day, all these vigils are a hill of nothing, many are vehicles for people with agendas, ask the same people to vote for a massive prison infrastructure spending program, overhaul of weak judges and reintroduction of the death penalty and the crowds will fade away

Finally the justice system seems be beginning to be looked at after the utter disgrace of last week

    Awful reign of terror.

18 years. Out in what, 14?

Very stiff sentence for our standards, but still about 30 years too little.

Again, little to no victim support, derisory custodial sentences/suspended sentences/bleeding heart reduced sentencing.

    Today's example:

"A 41-year-old Cork man has been jailed for seven years for raping his youngest sister over a three year period in the 1990s.

Nora Hegarty, who is now 35, was aged between nine and 12 at the time

of the rapes and sexual assaults, which took place at the family home

at Upper Glanmire in Co Cork.

Her brother John Paul Hegarty was aged from 15 to 18 years.

During the trial, Ms Hegarty told the court that whatever the number of

rape charges on the indictment, she was raped by her brother almost on a daily basis for three years.

She remembered asking why he was doing this to her when he had a girlfriend - it happened hundreds of times.

"I cannot even remember the first time, it was so many times. I was

so programmed to do it. It was a normal thing I had to do all the time,"

    she said.

Today, Ms Justice Deirdre Murphy sentenced John Paul Hegarty to eight years in prison on all the charges of rape, and three years for the sexual assaults with both sentences to run concurrently.

She suspended the final year of the sentence to reflect that he had led a crime-free life since these offences, and bound him to keep the peace for 12 months following his release.

Fixing these things would be true aids to keeping the public safe from aggressively violent people - not the pathetic hashtag identity politics of a lot of imbeciles in the public and media and govt and those bloody behind doors idpol ridden NGOs.

Parents responsible first for bringing their offspring up to have respect for all, then schools to educate further and reinforce that (without agenda ridden cesspit soundbites), then childrens' own social circle while learning how to socialise.

"What does that even mean, vetting?"

    -Michael Martin

Still haven't heard s single suggestion on what to actually do.

    Step up. Awareness. Outpouring. Etc.

Liveline would be a much better vehicle for practical suggestions from people that might actually change things.

    not great

I know he’s an absolutely terrible broadcaster, but I don’t think even the harshest judge would give him a life sentence……

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 6,433 ✭✭✭DoctorEdgeWild

I'm out callers. This is just a person rambling who would be much better served being directed to a professional to help her get over the attack. Help the caller Joe, don't just let her chat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,818 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

Could she have gone through the criminal injuries compensation scheme?

I got the grand total of 100 euro back for A and E visit......If I wanted them to cover anything else in my case I would have to go to a tribunal and tbh I just wasn't in the headspace to do that.

People looking for context and the details of what happened her. i dont think thats the point or applicable. the main idea is to highlight how sh1t the system is to victims here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,818 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

    Exactly...f#ck all.

There are much stricter sentences in UK for example

I'd say Joe and his team are frantically trying to get that Ukranian artist who lost her finger in an attack a few years back on to re-tell her story
