It's a first passport, the post you quoted was expedited after 8 weeks in the system. Yours hasn't been in the system even 5 weeks. I spent a lot of the last 5 years working closely with DFA and attended presentations by the passport office. First passports take as long as they take because of extra checks and scrutiny. Every passport after that will be a renewal so they have to be sure of the security of the first passport.

Hello there! I'm applying for son's first passport via passport express this week and I know I need to send in our passports. I have a couple of questions:

Do we need to send in our marriage cert along with our passports if I didn't change my maiden name?

My own passport is out of date in late February. Will this be a problem for my son's application? I.e. am I better off renewing my own passport first before starting with my son's?

    Thanks

Hello. I have now been waiting 6 months for a first time passport. (Submitted June 2021, father born in northern Ireland) I applied from USA. After about 4 months they messaged me claiming that I hadn't included an original utility bill, so I resubmitted one, meanwhile I received back all my original paperwork back including the utility bill I'd already submitted the first time. (no note or anything explaining why they sent anything back)

My estimated date was Jan 3rd. On the 4th I did an online chat and they asked about upcoming travel - I did have upcoming travel so they claimed they would expedite it, but there's been no more progress since then. Still processing.

Any suggestions? I don't want to nag them too much for fear they'll just take my application and put it at the bottom of the pile, but this is getting really frustrating.

    Thanks.

I would think that things are so slow that nearly everyone that isn’t a simple renewal end up looking for things to be expedited, either directly or through politicians. If there is a high volume of expeditions it doesn’t create extra staff so probably just keeps everything more or less the same.

Hi there - you would be better off applying online if you can the turnaround time is faster and you only need to send a photocopy of your passports then.

Hello, looking for some help on the Irish passport same day turnaround service (renewal).

Looking to travel on Sat but book an appointment on Friday but can’t establish if I will be given a new passport on the day. Is it worth trying or not? Fee is €150 in addition to passport cost.

Any info and help appreciated, thanks.

I am waiting 7 months at this point, first time passport. I will update the thread when I get an approval. I don't know any politicians who can expedite and live in the USA.

If you married after your child was born and you sign the form in your married name, you must send your civil marriage certificate. You can always send your own renewal application with your child’s if using passport express. If you were born on the Island of Ireland, you can send your long form birth cert instead of your passport.

Depends on the purpose of travel/circumstances. Also appointment time. I know people it worked for and people who were told to collect it the next day.

I renewed my passport and passport card using the online service last week. I received the new passport within a couple of days. However, I still haven't received the passport card. Is there much of a delay between the passport and getting the passport card?

I was going to use the passport tracker, but I can't find my application number. No idea where I put it, with the paper applications I used to do a snapshot of the sticker. But I've no idea what I did with the online application. I didn't seem to get a confirmation email.

nevermind! :) found my file where I printed to in some obscure location. Seems you do really wanna keep your application number safe! according to tracker the "card should follow shortly".

When I applied my card came about 2 weeks after the passport book

It arrived one day after the passport book for me in December.

Thanks. The urgent passport/same day turnaround service FAQs say you do not need to provide evidence of urgency but you do so for emergency cases. You pay €150 for the urgent renewal option.

appointment is in the morning so fingers crossed it is sorted there and then or by close of business.

Do they need to be in colour or does it matter?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 242 ✭✭LapsypaCork

Doesn’t need to be colour but must show the whole page and good quality photocopy.

Finding it tricky to apply for a child's first passport. All of the menus on the online application questions centre around renewal options. Which ones do I select?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24 sunshine2022

on the first screen My child’s most recent passport was issued less than 15 years ago

    Click no

that should send you on the right path :)

See if this works. Open the above link, click ‘no’ and take it from there. There’s no tab to request a first passport which is confusing alright.

    Hi All,

I have a question in relation to first time online application for a child. I sent the additional documents, they went by express post. According to my tracking it states that they have been delivered to the passport office. How long should it take for the post to be attached to my passport number and my number to be updated from alert (we await your documents).

I applied last week for an adult renewal and a first time child. I received the adult renewal in the post the following day. Great service.

I am not in a rush for the child application, just wondering about when it will be updated to we have all your documents, so that I can forget about it for 2-3 months.

    Thanks

Mine was 4 working days to be changed to Processing application - We have received your supporting documents. We are now verifying these documents.

My estimated due date is 10th March 2022 46 days from when the documents registered! i'll update you when mine moves along :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 178 ✭✭Olivia Pope

Thanks for the response sunshine, no need to check again until next week so. 46 days, good to know.
