Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Movie has to be identifiable from the sound only, no dialogue/score/soundtrack.

Just after watching Ghostbusters Afterlife so:

    1. Ecto 1 siren and proton pack powerup

    2. Lightsaber

    Anymore ?

There was a noise in the original Doom videogame I always used to hear in films, it sounds like something being launched kind of and then an explosion.

A interesting question. Two that sprung to mind were the Velociraptor from Jurassic Park or the transporter in Star Trek.

Sci Fi probably probably lends itself best to this challenge although almost all suggestions so far relate to franchises rather than a distinct movie, so have become ingrained in our heads over time.

Really highlights how much we depend on the score as the definitive sound of a film.

Slightly contentious, since it could maaaybe be argued as score, but—

    Bill & Ted’s air guitar’ing.

Would the Close Encounters 5 notes count as soundtrack/score or just sounds?

Same for the Cosmic Key notes in Masters of the Universe. (Hey, I liked that film)

Franchise wise we have the Transformers transforming sound.

And I know not a film but one tv sound I could easily identify would be Sam leaping in Quantum Leap.

The first time I heard the T Rex roar in the first Jurassic Park was pretty awesome and iconic.

The car revving noises and electricity sounds before the Delorean hit 88mph

The muffled crashing sound of Wiley Coyote hitting the bottom of a canyon. Also, the "meep meep" of the Roadrunner.

Also, the screech of the violins in Psycho in the murder scene.
