Happy Christmas everyone,

sorry for the delay with this weeks video but the whole family have been sick this past week and it's been a real struggle getting time to research and record it.

I'd really appreciate if people could subscribe and share the video if they like it.

Anyway, this week we take a look at the history of the BMW E34 and I've included a lot of film, ad and promotional material for a change, including some of the lovely engine sounds of the M5 from the film Ronin at the start.

Just on the Lexus ls430, I'm fairly sure I used to see that car regularly around Dartry / Rathgar as the plate stood out at the time.

That would have been 2002 2003.

Thanks Mick, people have been fairly insistent that it started life with Tim O'Mahoney of Toyota Ireland. Would he have lived around there?

They got registered out of the garage in Portlaoise. He had a a series of them all the way back to 90LS400

The LS plate was to match the model and surely if he was the head of Toyota Ireland he could have got it on any plate he wanted.

Speaking of high end lexus michael Martins 191D LS500H shot pass me on motorway from cork to Dublin yesterday . Probably his driver going back to Dublin for Xmas. No Garda car following . They are not supposed to be that great to drive but look great

Depends what you mean by great to drive, it's a big luxury car that's uber comfortable and well built. If you want a sports car buy something else.

Not its not that . If you read reviews it's suspension isn't supposed to be great and the hybrid system doesn't work well for a luxury car. However they revised it this year . It sells in very small numbers here and in UK . It seems much more of a car to be chauffeured in then an s class or 7 series

I have 6 of those starlets and 5 of them were owned by nuns. They are pretty interchangeable with later model starlets which helps with parts as parts are becoming scarce these days especially good body panels which are extremely hard to come by

Liking the channel. The irish angle is nice compared to most of the uk based classic stuff on YouTube.

You mentioned about adding cars to classic policy. Any detail on insuring classics here would be interesting.

I have a 2000 reg TT that can be put on a classic policy for under 300. Do they then allow you to add further cars for little money?

I really appreciate you taking the time to say that Mick. At times I don't know if I'm banging my head against the wall doing it as it's very slow to grow so I don't know if people actually enjoy it or not, flip side is I'm having huge fun making it even if it still takes about 7 hours to produce 10-15 minutes worth of material. As always, if anyone, anywhere can share this stuff I'd be very grateful. YouTube algothrims are quicker to pickup on similar UK content as they perceive a bigger audience for it.

As regards the insurance, I'm happy to share my own experience. If there happens to be a broker or someone who works with classic policies here that reads this and fancies doing a fully factual piece with me I'd love to do it for everyone. PM me.

Anyway, back to my own experience. I'm currently insured fully comp with FBD. According to them cars should be 25 years or older BUT I'm aware of several people who got a policy at 20 years old. This allows for use to shows and occasional social domestic and please (can't be your everyday car). This cost €184 for the first car, a standard 1991 Toyota MR2. It cost €80 approx to add my second car, a standard 1997 Merc C180. After that I'm unlimited in what I can add and it costs approx €40 per can per annum. So far I've included a 2001 Megane Convertible and 2002 Volvo C70. Total cost for 4 cars €344 fully comp including breakdown and windscreen cover. I can add anything over 20 years old to that policy for €40 once it's standard. If it's modified I need an engineers report and to declare mods and they'll send it to the underwriter. I have nothing like that nor do I indent to.

Axa were getting sketchy on covering newer stuff hence why I left them 2 years ago. Abbey Autoline I was insured with before and I believe their still excellent. I had a claim with them and can't say I had any issue despite people online warning because they're based in NI they'd be hard to deal with. No idea why they say that as it was handled by Allianz down here with zero issues.

The issue with committing that to video is that it's just my experience and could be different for others. Hope that's of use to you though.

It seems classics are the only way to own multiple cars in Ireland as anything else is a job for insurance.

Pretty much. It used to be the case that Abbey Autoline would insure specialist newer cars but I don't know if they do it or not now, same with Carol Nash but again it depends, a Clio RenaultSport wasn't considered a specialist car by them but a 318Ci was as it was a BMW.

There was also two lightweight versions introduced in 86, Turbo R and RI. The RI came with a 2E-E,rear spoiler,front lip and a red/black interior. The Turbo S and R could be got with TEMS, electronically controlled shocks. The Turbo versions got a bit of a face-lift in 88 with a different grill,front bumper and sideskirts

Do you SI that's mentioned? There are brochure shots of that in the video. It's pretty much a warmed over 2E 3 dr with sporty touches and interior. Looked great, I remember a few about back in the day. The Turbo then was the 1.3T which we all know.

I actually can't get over how nice it was to drive, especially with the 4 speed box. Always felt like I was racing. Would make your ears bleed on the motorway however

You have 2 starlet videos up. Admittedly that car wouldn't be of huge interest to me but I thought it was the same clip I was seeing again as its presented with very similar image of starlet from opposite sides.

There was an SI,SI- Limited, Canvas top SI and the RI "lightweight" which was a introducted with motorsport in mind which is pretty rare now. Don't want to be clogging up the thread, have a few brochure photos

No clog it up! I missed that but I think that's the brochure I used. If I remember correctly they weight 720kgs standard so any lighter would be a blast

The weight is somewhere a long the lines of 720-750kgs. I have one with the later 4efte turbo engine with 165bhp and its so much fun to drive! Here's some brochure photos of models,engine,optional extras etc
