Tax credit for new gas boiler?

I'm a carer for my elderly mother. Her boiler is on the blink and she needs a new one. Can I get a tax credit on the amount I pay for it? I'm not eligible for the grant as I won't be getting heating controls fitted, just the new boiler. It will work out about €2,600. Three years ago I bought new windows for her and I was able to claim tax credit over two years for this. Thanks in. advance

Are you sure you were allowed to claim a tax credit? Was it a straight forward purchase of windows as I am not familiar with a way to claim tax on this (I am not a tax expert so there are lots of credits that I could be unfamiliar with)

Whereabouts on the Form 11 did you record the expense and did you get professional advice in relation to the claim?

Your earlier claim was likely under the HRI scheme which operated a few years ago and the tax relief ( equivalent to the VAT amount ) was then granted over 2 tax years as a tax credit.

That scheme unfortunately has ceased and has not been replaced. There is nothing currently that I am aware of that would give you any tax credit for such work now.
