Never owned one but have driven one. They are a lovely car and fairly quick too. However they are a big car with a very wide turning circle and long bonnet which can be a challenge for regular sized parking spaces so you need to plan where you park. Suspension/ride is fine even on 20" wheels and I think most of them come with adaptive dampers anyway. Cabin is well put together and insulated.

Downsides are that tyres are going to be expensive and they tend to go through them quickly, like most big BMWs they tend to wear the outer tyre shoulders fast. You certainly need to have a fair bit of spare cash in reserve to replace something if it goes wrong as they are rarely cheap to fix as these cars cost close to 100k when new.

    Thanks

No adaptive dampers I’m afraid. Is my bucket list car. Sold my Ella’s to fund it went back the years as Ella’s was2018

I have a 2015 model for one year now, has 87k KMS on it . Lovely car to drive nice and comfy and plenty of power when needed . Done 20k km in last year and no issues so far apart from regular - brake pads and tyres

I had a 2016 for over a year. Amazing cars with serious power.

    Try and get the following

Top down cam, this is essential for parking or a rear view cam, some only came with sensors.

I presume for that money its a dealer sale from BMW with 2 ywar warrenty

  • Registered Users Posts: 39 solarflare

Yep have spec as you stated . Only one year warranty from dealer but had it checked by specialist mechanic.

Is it a bmw main dealer ?

I got the msport pack face lift lci as they changed in 2016, this means black pack on trim , calipers etc. You can tell a lci from the number of grille bars. More bars in the older model

Independent dealer I have dealt with before . Is the facelift model. Don’t have worry about him standing over it.m sport package reverse camera hud led adaptive lights 20 in China alloys .Sadly no adaptive suspension but from what others have said they experience no discomfort on ride quality.

9 grill bars in each kidney at front

Sounds good, I looked for adaptive suspension but its very rare, I went to UK to get the spec I wanted.

Once again amazing car , power and mug is un parelled . Also I think Still the best looking car on the road, the side profile is unreal

and only issue I had was the air pressure monitor failed. 300 euro to supply and for from bmw

Any other questions let me know

did you get the adaptive suspension in the uk. Presume you got ok mpg.How about tyre wear.

I feel same about the look of the car.I sold a low mileage e220d to fund this so hopefully I will have a positive experience like yourself. What did you change to.

  • Registered Users Posts: 39 solarflare

what mileage was on your 640

  • Registered Users Posts: 951 ✭✭✭Prefect_1998

no i never got it in the end, suspension is harsh enough on the 20" wheels. tyre ware was good, i wanted to change from the dunlop run flats to non run flats, i did not like them and did not trust them in hard cornering.

Did you change your Speedo from miles to kilometers if so how did you do it

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,258 ✭✭✭jmreire

How long did you have the Eclass for, and how did you find it? Are you changing to BMW for something different, or is there another reason? ( BTW, which E class was it? )

  • Registered Users Posts: 39 solarflare

I had 2018 e220d premium pack .i bought it with 11000 miles on it sold it with 32ooo miles. Got a price from Mercedes dealer I could not turn down.I bought the bmw because I wanted a 6 cylinder car .I do not do many miles and have always wanted a640d.The eclass is a superb car and the mpg is staggering I achieved 65mpg on a run from Belfast to cork last sept.Get premium pack with pan roof and make sure you get new 2litre engine .I had old 2.1 in my previous Merc and they are poles apart.

Thanks Solarflare for your reply. I'm on my 2nd E class, first was a 2010 E200, and present one is a 2014 E220, and I'm very happy with it. I just wondered what your experience of MB ownership was like....and 20'000 + miles would give you a fair idea about it !!! LOL and 65 MPG is fantastic... nearest I ever got to that was with an Audi A6, 1.9 TDI...it was phenomenal on fuel. And you had no major ( or minor) problems with it in that time?

  • Registered Users Posts: 39 solarflare

    Never a problem.it was a beautiful car.

  • Registered Users Posts: 39 solarflare

My average was 48mpg on trip computer when I sold it.

I am looking to purchase same, any feedback on your purchase @solarflare ?
