I wasn't sure whether this should go in the ugly bikes thread, or the indoor trainer thread, but I figured it probably deserved a thread of its own.

I don't have any form of indoor trainer, but I'm curious about this. Zwift always struck me as a different beast than Peloton or spinning classes or whatever, insofar as it was primarily used by people who already had road bikes and want to train in winter. How many of that cohort would shell out for this trainer, I wonder?

Honestly the tacx is a bit spin bike esque in form if not function.

Zwift will release a direct drive trainer & a Zwift bike seemingly. From a quick read of DC rainmaker the trainer is very similar to a Neo 2T in spec.

Personally I’m not sure I’d trust the first incarnations of a new brand of trainer even if it’s from Zwift.

I'm aware Peloton is essentially a thing on its own, but my initial question still stands?

The both look like spin bikes, so I'm wondering is the idea to target a market that doesn't actually cycle on the road. I mean at 3 grand, or whatever the price will end up being, you'd buy a nice bike

For sure they are after this market. The whole e sport environment is safer & does take so much of the risk away from racing a bike outdoors.

I can’t answer that for sure but with these latest developments the customer base must be significant to warrant this investment.

The platform has its issues that will need to be resolved going forward especially the UI so interesting times ahead.
