Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

VRT Import Charges

    Sorry if I'm repeating questions already asked but first time importing and have a bit of a confusing situation on my hands. I bought a car off a person in the North, who got it shipped in from England back in 2020 but never registered it their name, so V5C has Enland address. They have ferry ticket to prove that it was brought over in 2020. I bought this car off them just before Christmas and have brought it home to republic. I booked vrt in NCT centre for 7th January. Is there any fees I need to pay before then, is the ferry ticket OK proof of it being brought into the North? I have invoice from car from the seller. Just stressing out of this whole process, so any help really appreciated. If any more info is needed please ask me. Thanks.

    I would say you are looking at large VAT and Import tax bill before VRT obviously depending on age and value of the vehicle in question. A ferry ticket won't suffice, car could have been in and out of NI 20 times since that ferry ticket was bought. Or was it just a ticket that was bought but never used. Revenue are strict with their rules.

    By the way how did the seller end up with a V5C not in his name? Did you buy off a car dealer?

    If you can prove the car was imported to NI before 01/012021 (ferry ticket and invoice from NI seller), this should suffice.

    Bit confused now as these two seem to be two completely opposite answers. Car was bought from dealer in NI my mistake, I have proof of ferry ticket, and invoice from the NI seller yes.

    I'll also just add that the car is only worth couple thousand and is 2002 car, petrol if any of that adds to the equation. And if you're wondering why I'm bothering it's just sentimental value, and I'm getting this car on the road.

    Buying from a dealer would appear to be an important bit of info that was left out initially.

    I would say that a dealer invoice from north with date of energy and ferry ticket from 2020 would be ok.
