Toyota Auris Rust

2009 Auris failed NCT due to advanced corrosion. Would it be worth looking for a subframe? Head says no but car is running like a clock with low mileage so would love to do something with it if I could. Would be doing work myself so wouldn't need to factor expensive labour in.

If you are doing the work yourself and there's no other issues then I'd get a second hand one and fit it

If it’s just that definitely do it. Be prepared for rusted bolts though. I just replaced three front sections on an 08 that were totally rotted. Plenty of WD40 . Car came from Scotland 5 years ago. Cills and all perfect though.

Not worth to repair, because that bill goes higher than similar used car. It is reasonable to do only if you planning a trip to cheap labor country or DIY. Body repair manuals is available on internet. Order the new body parts, cut old one out on specific locations, prepare the surfaces, weld everything together and paint it.

It is worth the repair. No cutting needed. Replacing the axel shouldn’t take more than a few hours.

It needs a set of discs and a fluid change too to be fair but nothing outside the realms of normal maintenance. Car is running really well, Have put new calipers on in the last year, and a couple of wishbone bushes. I'd say i'll give it a shot, not sure how easy sourcing a replacement will be.

Was it a UK import I'm guessing? I went to view a 2010 UK import Auris over 4 years ago and it was in a bad bad way underneath. The car wasn't too much more than 6 years old at that stage. Rust bubbling out on the lower side of the rear door also. The chancer small time trader selling it said he would take it to get sandblasted tomorrow and it would be grand. You know the type, talking the talk, something like that or maybe the headgasket toast and it wouldn't matter as long there was plenty of son of a gun on the dash and tyres. And some people on this forum will still proclaim that modern cars don't rust🤐

On a side note that model Auris is far from Toyota's finest hour. Cheap and nasty I'd actually say. The cost cutting really shows. Not a patch on any Corolla that came before it. I'd consider the likes of an eighth generation Civic in a different league.

I've had an 2011 one as a second car for over six years, very reliable but it would feel a lot tinnier than any Toyota I've had before.

You're correct, As for your second paragraph, I can't fault it in terms of reliability to be fair. I said low mileage but there's actually 220km on it, Not a huge amount I know.

Don't get me wrong lads having owned a 2009 for a year it would have being unfair to say it was unreliable. As I recall it was good as gold apart from a rear brake caliper seizing. It was just the general feel and finish of the car that I was disappointed with. It particularly showed in things like the tinny doors and cheap sheet of plastic on top of the dash.

It wouldn't have being my first choice in car even at the time but had to get something pronto after my previous car being about to give up along the road. Tidy and clean cars in my price range were pretty thin on the ground in my vicinity. Anyway, that's all a side note to the actual topic in hand... Don't want to derail the thread either.
