Truck crash at Dublin Airport - 22nd December

This seems very odd, a 40 ft articulated truck appears to have started to make contact with cars within the arrivals area of Terminal 1, it then progresses to the area outside Mc Donalds and hits more cars on the way, this is a distance of over 500 metres through roads which are heavily bordered on each side and would require full skill level to drive through for any driver. The explanation of a medical emergency just doesn't hold up at all, also what was an articulated truck doing at the arrivals area to start with, to even navigate within that area in error requires a high level of skill.

Route taken, have a look at it on Street View to see required skill for 40ft truck, it's not like it would naturally follow this route...

Probably hypoglycemia. A deliberate act seems unlikely seeing how there are plenty of streets packed with shoppers to choose from

Its been a few days since it happened and there is still no confirmation of what actually happened.

If it was a medical emergency i assume there would of been mention of the truck driver being brought to hospital for treatment.

Hopefully it was an accident but what else are people supposed to think when theres no information available

Personally I'm thinking "thankfully no one appears to have been seriously hurt, and hopefully the driver of the truck is recovering from what ever happened to him, and what it was is none of my business"

Irish Mirror report from 23/12.

Sources told the Irish Mirror that the incident was the result of the truck driver suffering a diabetic episode.

It is understood the man was in a confused state when reached by gardai and was unable to tell them what had happened or how he had reached the spot outside the airport.

It's just wording on a newspaper nothing is suspicious. Maybe official report is running slow due to the holidays or Covid. Not everything has something underneath

According to the Irish Mirror Sources, it was caused by the driver having a diabetic episode. From the description, that fits the bill 100%. But given the times we live in, I could understand people jumping to the wrong conclusions.

People want everything now sometimes due to circumstances it can not happen and people dream up every type of scenario. Maybe due normally if this happens it is a security issue they are dotting every I first or due to it not been a security issue and its Christmas things are not running as quick

There was an incident. A man driving a lorry became ill and lost control of the lorry. Some property was damaged but no one was killed or even injured thank God.It wasn’t really a newsworthy story at all.

If the Gardai have to issue a statement explaining in minute detail every single time there is an incident where one car hits another somewhere in Ireland then it would soon get very tedious for all concerned.

You wouldn’t even know this had happened at all if the media hadn’t decided to run with it. They ran with it because there is a certain section of Irish society becoming increasingly frustrated at the lack of dramatic terrorist attacks in Ireland and they know that these people want these accidents to be deliberate.

Have a look in the cargo area (next to the passenger area).

Dozens of large trucks every day.

This was a case of a driver falling ill. Nothing more than that.

It's of little interest, hence very little news reports.

When someone goes hypo, (hypoglaecemic), it affects the reasoning and thinking. It is quite probable the driver was out doing his business, took a hypo and then ended up with what we see. It is not a common driver ailment, and diabetics need to be medically cleared to drive. Diabetics are supposed to eat regularly and not skip meals. Also they are supposed to test their blood while driving every so many hours.

It truly is scary and as a diabetic, I am only to aware of this scenario.

He didn't have a Diabetic episode ( Hypo) and then drive all the way to the airport from where ever, and damage all those cars....after the Hypo, he became disoriented and its from that point onwards, the damage was caused. A matter of seconds, I've seen it happen sometimes the Diabetic can feel it coming on, and has time to react,,,,eat or drink something with lots of sugar in it, and make a very quick recovery. The vehicles he struck were haphazard....if he ( or anyone else) wanted to cause serious damage and injuries, in a 40 ' artic, he / she would be capable of literally wrecking that part of the airport.
