9 year old computer...having issues

Hey,

This PC was built through boards here some years ago. Spec from then is below.

I replaced the CR2032 battery during the summer and that seemed to sort things out for a while. I ran Crystal Disk Info on it last weekend it said it was good, 97%. How accurate that tool is I've no idea. Lately, it's saying 'reboot and select proper disk device', can't go any further. When I get into the Asrock UEFI setup utility it just has boot option #1 and ACHI P4 TSSTcorp CDDVDW=SH224 so it's not seeing the SSD. There have been other times when it has apparently shutdown. It's a family member's PC, so I haven't seen that first hand. Could it be the PSU or something else that's failing?

Its either the SSD or the board that's failing. SSD most likely

If you get it to boot, back everything up immediately.

That's what I was thinking. Person knows to back up, so hopefully nothing will be lost.

Is it worth buying new SSD and trying to clone the old one?

Well, if its not being recognised by the BIOS there won't be anything to clone... but if it can be read, yes. Have you got a USB-SATA adapter to try it externally?

I've an adapter of some description as I cloned a HD to SSD on another machine before.

Had a look at the board, didn't see any corrosion on the capacitors. Not that this guarantees anything. It still boots sometimes.
