Its like the Edinburgh home game last season, a game we could very easily cut loose but we never do due to our obsession with going for 3 points at every single opportunity, nearly lost that game too as a result due to Edinburgh scoring tries.

    Would you relax.

The BP is just around the corner.

As bad as this is, I think I'd enjoy it more if the commentators stopped reminding us of how bad it is.

While, equally, going for the 3 kept us in the game vs Clermont before we kicked on in a brilliant performance.

The difference that day was, the plays off line outs were sticking.

The likes of the Campbell box kick was a bit loose. But then his kick down the line for Earls was good.

I think the errors are costing us far more than the kicking.

And that right there is why us going for 3 points all the time makes little sense, because we almost immediately concede 3 points and undo all the good work we did.

You can see in this game why Castres do well in the Top 14 but are rubbish in Europe, perfectly designed for the slugfest the Top14 is. Sadly we have paid them far too much respect today and allowed them to turn this into an arm wrestle.

There's a time and a place for it, away from home against a big team like Clermont it makes perfect sense, against Edinburgh and Castres at home where you expect to win its not the place.

    Kockott is an absolute numpty!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,119 ✭✭✭UAEguy2020

We are 10 points up with 12 minutes to go and we are going for goal against Castres at home...its quite clear we have no intention of going for the bonus point...

I hope Munster remember these decisions if we are away from home in a difficult knockout game due to us missing out on a home game by a point...

Maybe getting an away QF is the target turning down the try and taking the 3 points

Castres were rubbish last week and are rubbish this week. You just take the win and move on. It's hard to be exciting against such negativity

Farrell’s been getting his hands free all night. Could’ve looked a far better performance if others had been a bit more accurate around him.

Tbf to Munster, the amount of disruption the last month is still having a massive affect. Some players not back to training until Tuesday this week, some still isolating including coaches. That's alot to deal with ....

Castre should complain about Munster having 16 on the field. in fairness we look awful even with Hank earls on the pitch.

Its even harder when you let them drag you down to their level. Continuing to go for 3 points at every single opportunity and allowing any life or momentum to be completely sucked out of the game isnt helping.

Also, what's the deal with Kockotts left arm?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,119 ✭✭✭UAEguy2020

What Castres are doing here is no different to what Stade did in Galway last week, the only difference is Connacht actually played their own game whereas Munster have played Castres game. We are seeing which approach is more effective. The fact this could be a 1 score game with 5 minutes to go here is a damning indictment on Munster's performance today.

    That was ..... Odd!

    Error count just too high.

And Krum takes the Golden Snitch to finish the match on his terms.

    Bring back the kids.

Not sure you will even sell 5k tickets for next week after that performance.

    Murray should have gone earlier.

They should never have gone for 3 with that last kick.

Didnt control it, didnt play to our strenghts, didnt control the tempo, didnt attack their weakness.

Some of that is down to rustyness, but you would want a far far better performance next week.

Sums up what we were up against, shows just how criminal a performance that was Munster.

What we have learnt now without a doubt is dont play a game where we go for 3 points every single time we attack, we are far too undisciplined to be successful doing this. Its the big negative of playing Healy, O'Mahony will always take the 3 as he knows Healy will take the 3.

If we miss out on a home QF or SF by one point ill have no sympathy as we spent the whole game pissing around and playing within ourselves.

Just look at that table, we missed out on top spot by a PD of 1. Imagine if what happened last year happens now and the last 2 rounds are suspended and we end up missing out by not only a point but a point in PD and we end up playing Racing away in a SF for example rather than a home SF, all of that because we just let Castres drag us down into an arm wrestle.

Unfortunately I am starting to be convinced that Murray won’t make the World Cup squad nor be the starting SH next year for Munster. So much box kicking and slow ball not getting runners on the ball.

That was ok from Munster. They got sucked into a dogfight by Castres and never managed to get out of it. But a wins a win and you have to be happy with that.

They have Leinster next week and they'll be a far different proposition. They'll be raring to go having not played in a number of weeks.

One thing Munster can take from this evening is that they won the forward battle even though their pack underperformed. Leinster have generally won that in previous meetings. If Munster can gain parity they'll be in a good position.

I've rarely been so happy to not be able to get to a game. Easy watching it wasn't.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,931 ✭✭✭lawrencesummers

Yep. Leaving limerick now for a 4 hour drive would be hard going.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,291 ✭✭✭✭aloooof

I’ve some sympathy, given the last number of weeks. From the starting 15, I think John Ryan, Niall Scannell, Jean Kleyn, Ben Healy and JOD hadn’t started a game in 9 weeks, for example and will only have started training back with the others in the last few days.

Goes some way to explaining the performance, but the level of inaccuracies and errors made it difficult to get anything going (and more difficult to watch). I think if DDA’s score had stood, making it 13-0, it might’ve turned out different.

Shoring up the re-starts, Chris Farrell looking dangerous at times and 4 lineout steals amongst the few positives. Will need to be a lot better next weekend.

    A thrilling win v Castres

    and Leinster lost 28-0

Healy showed some glimpses of real quality tonight, not just from the boot. Nice timing and decisions on his passes.

Less said about... well.. most other things... the better...
