For We Charge accessing ESB ecars, are you charged the PAYG price for the session or the Membership rates from ecars.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 615 ✭✭✭Rusky rusky

Neither, the price you pay is seen in the picture. It’s too expensive to be considered as a alternative to the esb prices. Same €0.385 is charged for AC chargers.

Good News / Bad News day for me.

    • Good News - my Tour 5 ordered in early Sept will receive the new Spec (may be of interest to those who ordered later and are still waiting).
    • Bad News - my build week has changed from BW50 to, "we'll know more in Jan"

As long as the delay is not too much I'll be happy out with the new spec (updated interior material, and it seems with Park Assist and Park memory)

Hi I haven’t noticed poor signal but I’ve noticed since yesterday I no longer have connection to my car via the app. The app seems stuck on a day, probably last Friday where it says my range and charge percentage are completely different to what the car is saying and won’t remotely charge or pre heat !

The car still says it has a 4G signal but I tried the we charge app on the infotainment and that says there is a connection error. Not completely the same as what you asked in your post but my first major issue with the car since I got it.

Have you updated the app? There were some recent releases to both Andriod and iOS versions.

I had an issue with the App recently and I resolved it by logging out and then back in again.

What's so bad about kWh/100km it's the easiest way to compare two different journeys that are likely to be different distances. Its saves you the step of I travelled x km and used y kWh, therefore todays usage was x/y kWh/km.

Or in a simpler manner, on my journey, the kWh/100km number is higher therefore I will have less range. If you only showed me kWh used, I'd constantly have to divide it by distance travelled to see if I was doing better or worse than usual.

Added good news is that your getting a better spec’d car with a 2022 plate for €2,577 less than what it would cost you to buy it in January -

I ordered mid August but have heard nothing, mind you, I haven’t enquired either. We could definitely do with the park assist at home here so if it’s delayed we might get the extras.

We have both got used to kWh/100km at this stage on our two EVs. Don't see any need to change..🙂

Any new info on Electricity deals to suppliers to switch too?

Yes because you're used to Kwh/100 Km where as I want to know exactly how many Kwh I take from the battery per trip. To me it makes much more sense. It's just logical to me, I don't want to know the average per 100 Kms I want exact Kwh taken from the battery or put back in via charging.

Yeah I got a bad deal there, had to wait 6 months for older spec picked up mid October then few weeks later the spec changes.......Not good. Can't even get 2.3 software.

I've had no issue with the app, I can see driving along getting good signal and then 1 bar where I think I should be getting max or close.

Anyone know what network they piggyback off here ?

I had tried the logging in & out but didn’t work. My app was up to date as they automatically update once released. But I solved it by logging out & deleting the app & then reinstalling it. Wether the logging out bit was needed or not I dunno. Thanks for the help lads 👍

It's not that I'm used to kWh/100km, it's just extremely rare that I'm trying to compare trips of equal distance and care about the total energy used. I can see why you'd be interested in the energy replaced during charging, do you get a summary of charging sessions with total amount charged?

No, given 0 indication of Kwh used.

I'm not suggesting the replace the Kwh/100 km reading just to add Kwh used.

my wifes ID3 has started unclipping the seat belts on 2 of the rear 3 seats randomly at first. but now it wont really click fully. Making the car useless as a family car, and dangerous imo ( it initially unclicked on the m50 with my daughter in it. )

We booked in into a South Dublin service centre for a warranty.

On arrival the guy started off by saying its probably crips or something stuck in the 2 buckles ( or clips ) and therefore it wouldnt be covered by warranty. She said it was crappy design if crisps can jam a seat buckle and none of our other cars ever had an issue with that. He pointed to the fact the car had clearly had kids in the back 😲 imagine that ! He said well they were just a dealership and shouldnt have to deal with such things!

He then proceeded to go round the car and say, its a bit dirty so and being white its hard for him to tell if there are any scratches on it ! He then spent more time looking over our car than ANY hire car company I ever returned to.

Lastly, they were to call us when the car was ready, they didnt even after my calling and asking to confirm it would be ready for collection today. They were to get back to me and didnt.

what a joke, my sisters ford had squeaky brakes, and the loacl ford guys ( again not where she bought it ) took it in and spent 30 mins checking it without ever even mentioning cost - just good customer service.

What has the condition of your car got to do with him, it's not as if you went in and demanded a new car or anything. All you wanted him to do is replace a couple of buckles. 15 minute job if they had them at hand.

Sounds like a sh1t dealer to me.

Didn't VW have problems with the rear seat belts on some of their models? Can't google it atm..

Saw on german id3 forum that vehicles with factory 2.3 software battery heating starts at 0 degrees c. 2.3 ota at 8 degrees. Will 2.4 solve this problem?. Anybody with factory 2.3 confirm.

Bidirectional charging will be available according to this but only in the 77kWh versions which is annoying. For me anyway.

And it looks like the already delivered 77kWh cars are capable of this too, they just need an OTA update and suitable wallbox.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 3,402 ✭✭✭Fingleberries

Bidirectional charging. I presume you need a specific charger for that.

But what is the benefit for you as the owner? If you've used the battery from your car to run your house, if your car is empty when you need it.

I could see a potential benefit at long term airport parking, when such things are needed again. You could pay for your parking by adding your car as a part of a makeshift battery pack. At home, I'm not sold on it, but open to correction.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,926 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

If you pay double during the day for your power, then you charge the car on night rate and use that to power the house to save on day rate.

Or you charge the car from excess solar and then use it as a big storage battery to run the house.

Of course you'd need to ensure you don't use too much of it and have enough left for driving.

There's also potential to use the car's power during a power cut.

Yeah my VW Polo had this problem, VW said not to have anyone sit in the back until they fixed the seatbelts through a recall. Sounds a bit concerning that this is potentially happening in the ID3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,509 ✭✭✭✭ted1

Is there really to use the cars power during a power cut? You’d need to isolate from the grid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 728 ✭✭✭Bif

Would love if my ID3 was capable of bi-directional charging. I imagine it would be useful for electricity suppliers and the networks to have access (with agreement) to that amount of stored energy als. Bring it on. Glad I have the Tour if this is possible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,926 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

I'd imagine it could just be used to plug an extension lead into for running some essentials like the TV, I mean the freezer.

I've seen pics online of an EV6 owner boiling the kettle on the driveway during an outage to let all his neighbours have a cup of tea. #showoff...

I suppose long term bi-directional charging might be a thing - to even out the vagaries of renewable supply. Short term i'd be thinking would the extra cycling through of the battery be speeding up degradation? Has anyone done the maths?

Short term i think VW should look at the here and now. Fixing the timers and the pre-heating of the battery would please me more than vague promises of things i might be able to do next year.

Would be handy for me, charge up at work and power the house when home! 😂
