waiting for the 11 day mark is reasonable. my point is that the antigen test may not be negative at day 11.... then what. ur stuck and cant enter country of residence for weeks on end.

I see where NPHET are on about more restrictions, MHQ for everyone?

Anyone familiar with travel requirements for the czech republic?

I know we need antigen tests coming back to Ireland but not clear what type of test (if any) are required from a vaccinated person arriving in czechia.

This was happening to many people over the period January to DCC being accepted when testing was required.

my understanding is that an Antigen test is not likely to come back positive once symptoms have abated. A PCR is very sensitive and can pick up fragments of the virus for weeks. I think people should look at the 10 days as the minimum rather than the maximum if they are in that situation.

It’s not ideal but that’s the world we live in now.

Had a similar experience with Lloyds in London. Booked a test soon after the announcement for this Wednesday. They called earlier from the pharmacy saying they don't do LFT's and they can't provide a test, some head office error! Luckily I was able to find an appointment with another pharmacy but I'll have to travel for well over an hour to get there. Not much availability in London for the next 7 days.

No no I was just asking, I hope not. I just saw an article saying that nphet want more restrictions and I wanted to know if anyone knew anything more.

flying with United airlines to and from the US on 27th. Their online “travel ready centre” requires upload of test and vaccination status for entry to the USA one day before flight from Dublin.

on return leg to Ireland even today, it states That an antigen test is acceptable, are you saying it’s PCR only for entry to Ireland?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 725 ✭✭✭M_Murphy57

Antigen is currently still acceptable for entry, that hasn't changed ....yet.

Keep an eye on TH. This is the perfect excuse for him to get rid of antigen for entry , soothing his bruised ego. Added bonus that the govt get to look like they are "doing something" about travel whilst actually doing nothing useful (their favourite kind of doing)

Plenty of boys in the states that would provide favourable tests if they got a brown envelope!

I posted this in the travel forum but relevant to here too - I am just back from America. I travelled with United Airlines.

For entry - I got an antigen test in boots. I got an EU printout and a cert which said I was negative within 40 minutes of the test. I uploaded the latter and United accepted it.

I uploaded my proof of vaccination too.

You will need a completed ESTA and your airline is most likely going to request some form of Advance Passenger Information - ie your address when in the States.

All of the above and you are ready to go. For peace of mind I bought some antigens in LIDL and did one 3 days and 1 day before my test so that I had some peace of mind. I brought 2 with me also and did them 3 days and 1 day before my test in America - again for some peace of mind. I highly recommend you do this. It game me huge peace of mind when in America.

For return - I got an antigen test, the results of which were timed at 44 hours before my intended arrival time. I paid $99 for a health clinic in the city I was in. Results took 20 minutes.

On the United website it only specifies Antigen in the small print, whereas PCR is highlighted in big bold letters so don't be surprised to see your antigen test rejected online. Mine was rejected each time I uploaded it - obviously some idiot only reading the bolded text on the United entry requirement website. Don't panic. You may have to present it to someone at your USA airport of departure. In Newark over half the plane had to physically show their negative test to an attendant before boarding because their boarding pass didn't say 'Travel Ready'.

When I arrived in Ireland I was asked by the Guard to show everything - Passport (obviously), Negative test, Vaccine Cert, Passenger Locator Form.

Everything I used going in both directions was digital - don't be worried if you can't get to a printer.

Antigen is less sensitive, cheaper and faster so is the test I would recommend without question.

Looks like testing requirements for reentry will be loosened if anything. This is according to a Gav Reilly Tweet commenting on Leo's Newstalk interview.

Please god. If it is this will be the 1st time we've copied another nation loosening restrictions instead of introducing them

Canada now telling people not to internally travel for Xmas. I live in Vancouver and I am already dreading the trip back, at this rate, i am expecting a mandatory quarantine in some form. Feels inevitable.

How are things in Canada Frank atm? Are cases/hospitals high?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,263 ✭✭✭✭Frank Bullitt

Not bad, they never really were that bad. I live in British Columbia and it has been very calm there. The daily average is on the up though due to Omicron, hospitals are still in decent shape as well.

The source of my worry is that the Federal Gov are now against leisure travel, and this is when the cases are generally quite low.

In case it's helpful for anyone, my recent experience travelling home from Riga on Saturday 11th:

As soon as requirement for negative test was announced I went online and saw they had antigen tests at Riga airport for €24, booked this and chose "pay at airport" option in case something changed in the meantime, gave them my passport info etc and they emailed me a PIN number for use when arriving at test station. There was an option to book a time slot but was assured you could just show up and you'd be seen.

They had a permanent testing area setup by a third party company near the check in desks. Our flight was at 10:30pm but we gave extra time to go through all of this in case of queues etc. When we arrived there was a touch screen where we tapped to print a ticket number and there was about 5 or 6 minute wait until we were called to one of the 3 testing booths. Gave them my pin and they could see all details on the system, tapped my card to pay and test was taken instantly and they gave me a sticker with a password to access my results via email, this password was also texted on to me. Whole process took about 3 minutes max I'd say. Received an email about 20 minutes later when in departure lounge and logged into portal with the password and downloaded a cert confirming negative result to my phone.

Regarding checking documents, this was pretty militant and they were asking everyone to check in at the desk beside the gate where the chap checked passenger locator form, covid pass and the negative test result. He was particularly interested in the test result and made sure both my name and negative status was on the cert. He then printed a generic boarding pass that the gate staff scanned going onto the plane. Back in Ireland, the border agent asked me if I had covid pass and passenger locator form done but didn't need to see them, but he did check my negative test and took my phone, zoomed in to check negative status and that it matched my name. For my partner, everything was checked.

Long story short, they seem to have gotten very strict with checking everything compared to the last two times I travelled and there's no way I would attempt to skip out on the testing requirement based on my experience. Hopefully this isn't a long term requirement once enough boosters have gone out or the new variant inevitably becomes dominant here as it just adds extra hassle to travel now

Not defending him here, but did he say actually say anything further apart from that international travel restrictions will be discussed. Seems to me that Gavin Reilly was the only one stating they are likely to be relaxed rather than tightened, unsure if he had a source but he didn't ref any. And then he bizarrely tweets complaining about mixed messaging, when he seems to have created the issue.

Yeah I had the news on in the background a while ago and my ears pricked up when I heard Gavin Reilly say they are likely to drop the current testing requirement for travel given that Omicron is already here.

I mean that would be amazing but I can’t see it happening?!

In the Irishtimes, Martin now saying that the emphasis will be on more testing and he specifically mentions before you travel. I really hope not, it will really screw up anyone trying to leave around the 27th.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,343 ✭✭✭sunbabe08

Is he talking about doing a pcr test before flying?? I’m flying to Spain on the 22nd

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,737 ✭✭✭Darwin

It was deliberately vague, I guess we will know more by the end of the week.

    Here's what is quoted:

Speaking as he arrived in Brussels for the European Council meeting, Mr Martin said testing before and after travel and prior to social activities will be key to tackling an expected rise in infections due to the Omicron variant.

Edit:It is possible he is talking about people taking responsibility for their own testing and not making it mandatory (e.g. in the same way arrivals from UK are encourage to test for 5 days post arrival).

So Italy and Greece are going to require incoming passengers to have PCR tests.

Possibly France to do the same soon.

Don't think Ireland is going to scrap it unfortunately.

I didn't get my test done in NYC, I flew to from another US city to Newark and had a layover before my flight home.

Unfortunately some cities are extortionate for them.

They will never scrap it, its vaccine certs + PCR/antigen from now on - permanently
