Thank him for his service, an dat.

I'd seen a lot of round towers and thought they seemed to be in very good order for their age. Now I know why.

It's a perplexing question, Misery to be found on the Late Late, Scare Byrne both on Radio and TV, of course its a speciality of our Erstwhile host on da live line.

It doesn't end there, RTE seem to be obsessed about the health, illness, Travails of current, Retiring and death of former employees, it doesn't even end there, Marty Morriseys mothers Death (RIP) was not just covered but morbid photos of the funeral, Coffin leaving the church was covered, WTF is the purpose of such coverage.

Recent documentaries on past employees and the ongoing Charlie Bird health decline are just disturbing, I sympathise of course but my god is it really necessary.

Is it a journalist/media thing, I'm not sure, but disturbing it certainly is.

Why RTE thought covering assisted suicide two weeks before Christmas is beyond comprehension and actually extraordinary and Not in a good way.

There's a saying, "No one does death like the Irish", this needs updating to "No one does Death like Montrosia"

When I started working from home last year I was really looking forward to being able to listen to the radio in the background. In the past whenever I was on annual leave and wasn't going away, I really enjoyed radio 1. But one/two months into the pandemic I couldn't listen to it any more! The only show I listen to is liveline because of this thread and It's on during my lunchbreak. Can't watch anything on rte TV either in the evening due to the constant diet of misery, death etc. And I've had my own fair share of illness, deaths, misfortune to deal with in the past and I'd be a good candidate to talk to Joe but god when I turn on the radio and the TV I just want to hear and see uplifting things. The misery and death we all have and inevitably will have in real life.

I feel exactly the same 😏 I rarely ever listened to or watched Irish TV or Radio but the pandemic changed that, more so catching up on news, pandemic etc but mother of God, the actual reporting was more depressing than the pandemic itself .

And yes, when I came across this fantastic thread, it lifted my spirits, so to speak 😁

I think I should give up commenting because you have put my thoughts on this obsession with misery and death on the national broadcaster far more articulately than I... Nothing to add

I suspect the death fetish is more to do with the difficulty (in normal times) of serving up a rich and varied diet around the clock, and lord knows we got on top of RTE often enough for failing in that pre-pando.

The pando and everything to do with it, was like manna from heaven for the newsroom and current affairs depts, even the general programming slots, as the stories created themselves, saving journalist from having to make up the news as normal.

Lazy bastard journalism is the main thing.

    • Parking in Dublin. Somebody parked somewhere for 71 minutes with the Chiselurs and was charged €8.10. A stealth tax.

So there’s no technical glitch so to speak re vaccines, but a management glitch. In that there’s zero management. Michéal Martin trolling us by saying we don’t want vaccines.. they just don’t have remotely sufficient numbers of vaccinators available. No forward planning.

    Love it, Tractor Hearse 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I'll be diplomatic re women parking 😅
