Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Healthcare students? F*ck em.

They're taking the case off the back of the Lancet study which (correctly) observes that there is no significant difference in the peak virus load if they contract it. What's also true is that vaccinated people clear the virus quicker, have less time with peak and high viral loads, and thus are less likely to transmit the disease forward.

Get with the program and take the vaccine.

The hospitals have a major problem with this virus spreading within their wards to vulnerable patients. I don't blame them for enforcing rules.

Ladies, it's not all about YOU.

well, based upon that, i have some further reading to do!

Hepatitis B vaccination is a requirement too for years. I bet they had those shots.

One of the core ethical duties of any healthcare practitioner is to keep themselves healthy both mentally and physically.

Getting ICU ill from an illness that has a vaccine, putting more pressure on the system due to your healthcare needs, and not being available for work, would be frowned upon.

Also there is no fundamental human right to pursue one particular course of study. don't see any court enforcing their demands.

such hyperbole in their pitch too.. crying discrimination and GDPR..seriously and they have got enough for 2 or 3 days in the high Court too. World is crazy

    Well done, Trinity College.

A total and utter waste of judicial time.

    An average donation of €33.

You'd get a few nights in Marrakesh for that.

Crying GDPR when they have put their picture on the go fund page? Mandatory vaccines for going abroad too. Bet they wouldn't refuse to take them. There are side effects to all medications.

    The absolute irony -

We are counting on the support of the public to make this possible and to allow us to continue our training as essential healthcare workers.

     Be part of a movement!

As for being part of a movement, hopefully it’s in the direction of fcuking off and not playing silly beggars to put the public at risk from their own stupid behaviour.

2 young healthy women decide not to get the vaccine ? how terrible of them, stone them to death!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,676 ✭✭✭✭Peregrinus

Yeah. Why should aspiring healthcare professionals be expected to give a damn about the possibly vulnerable patients to whom they might transmit an infectious disease?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,708 ✭✭✭Real Donald Trump

Yeah sure, because vaccinated people can't catch the virus and spread it, makes perfect sense.

  • Registered Users Posts: 468 ✭✭Shao Kahn

    Hope they win their case!

This is not about being pro / anti vax anymore.

Certain people in society and government are enjoying this power and control they have over other people's lives (and in this case careers). It's getting completely out of hand at this point. Bullying would not be too strong a term tbh.

Unless there is a push back from more people against this authoritarianism, then we are heading down a slippery slope in society. And we could be stuck like this for many years to come.

"Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives, and it puts itself into our hands. It hopes we've learned something from yesterday." (John Wayne)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,676 ✭✭✭✭Peregrinus

The case for vaccination - and, really, I shouldn't have to explain this - doesn't require that vaccinated people should be unable to catch and spread the virus; just that they should do so at lower rates than unvaccinated people.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,708 ✭✭✭Real Donald Trump

The people they would be caring for are most likely vaccinated, hence there should be no problem.

  • Subscribers Posts: 41,824 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

Do you think the vaccine stops you catching the virus?

Do you think vulnerable people are much more likely of dying from the virus?

You realise in healthcare, you're already required to have multiple vaccines? Should they be allowed to refuse all of them?

Also that GoFundMe is pure grifting.

Out of interest, pre covid times, were people told before they begin these types of courses that they must have xyz jabs done before they start the course and progress in their careers does anyone know?

the BCG vaccine is a requirement to work in the HSE, not just for frontline staff.

healthcare students rejecting basic healthcare provisions is utterly bizarre. it's like stating 'we don't believe in sound medical practice'.

Surely if you decide not to get vaccinated for some kind of ??principle?? then you must accept the consequences of that choice?

Rather than expect an entire system to change for you?

All of us who are unable to take the vaccine for eg medical reasons have to make that adaptation.

They are high risk category if working in hospital. Shem they have poisoned their medical career going forward. What a waste?!, What are they try to do, bribe the HSE with 40k more in their pockets and then get vaccinated?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,126 ✭✭✭Ben D Bus

Maybe I'm misreading study results, but I think these 2 have their claim wrong. The Lancet article they refer to seems to be comparing breakthrough cases in vaccinated people to unvaccinated cases. So they're just saying that anyone who has Covid risks passing it on, regardless of vaccination status?

But being vaccinated reduces the chance of getting an infection to pass on in the first place.

"...the authors compared the viral kinetics in breakthrough delta variant infections in vaccinated people with delta variant infections in unvaccinated people..."

Rubbish. There are many reasons for getting the vaccine and there are many differences between getting vaccinated or not.

Hmm, industry professionals ignoring best practice and safety standards within that industry would NEVER qualify from their chosen field if they showed a similar disregard for for industry standard in ANY other field. Imagine an electrician trying to get bread out of a toaster with a knife, or a gas repair fella smoking as he stood over your boiler......

Not about whether or not they can catch it, but how badly they catch it and how bad it is when they pass it on. They're also much more likely to be around other unvaxed or those who cannot be vaxed, therefore need to do what their boss/contract says. If they don't want to comply, then GTFO and find another job.

Again, a startling display of ignorance of the issues at hand. You really should learn more about a subject before spouting the above, ill-informed, undereducated drivel. You're just lashing out soundbites at this stage.

So, they say they have taken all vaccines that were required before they started, no issues with that obviously. But now won't take newly ordered vaccines?

Perhaps if they were working in hospitality, or couldn't take a vaccine for health reasons, they may have a case, but they intend to work in healthcare, where some vaccines are mandatory?

    Chancers.

one funny part in that the gofundme, the blurb describes them as 'brave' (in allcaps, too). and it's clear it's written by them.

Physiotherapists and midwives can work privately, they don't need to be in the hospital system.

Covid vaccines aren't mandatory for hospital workers (yet) and even if they were these girls could work somewhere else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,941 ✭✭✭growleaves

Why is routine testing not acceptable for a clinical placement?

Irish Council for Civil Liberties says test results should be an option for the passes.

That's what most countries allow and no one objects so why are there so many bitter Irish people chafing at the thought of allowing people with a negative test result go about their lives?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,565 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

They are hinging their entire "case" to a study they clearly don't understand.

I think the health service going forward has dodged 2 bullets here.

As for the weak minded gleefully handing over money to fund the folly, not much can be done unfortunately.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,018 ✭✭✭knipex

Wait until they find out about all the other vaccines healthcare workers have to take.

Gobshites the pair of them. Wait until they decide they want to go abroad and work...

Any word on the stupidity vaccine yet?

exactly ....they havent a hope of winning their case and it is just another one of those go fund me scams.

They are brave to stand up for what they believe in, whether you agree with their stance or not. They are putting their careers and future reputation on the line. I don't think that's something most people would do without feeling some considerable trepidation.

Just wait and see if we're still here come next Christmas, you'll be surprised how many people might be taking similar action. Perhaps even some of the same people who are ridiculing these girls, as there is no definitive end in sight for all of this draconian lunacy at present!

this is why 'brave' and 'stupid' are often used as synonyms.

They're fulfilling the basic requirement of all students which is to be annoying as fck.

    Fair play to them.

Anyone who supports segregation is a Facist piece of ****.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,676 ✭✭✭✭Peregrinus

They are putting their careers and future reputation on the line in order to assert a what they suppose to be their right to put other people's lives and health on the line.

    This isn't admirable.

No vaccinations are required for non-frontline staff.

Well they weren't as at January 2021 anyways.

    Grifters gonna grift.

What did that dodgy "barrister" (but not a member of the law library) Tracey O Mahoney do with her 140k+...it was at 50k after 5 days but she bumped it up...chancers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,135 ✭✭✭✭Lumen

You don't need to be a member of the law library to be a practising barrister.

I like the way she appears like a hostage in her own YouTube videos. 😀

turns out it was MMR i was thinking of. a healthcare worker whose work requires them to 'attend a clinical area' - even if they're not in face to face contact with patients - should have immunity to MMR. it's possible i am misusing the term 'frontline staff' as just those who do interact directly with patients.

going by that list, as the two women in question are training to have direct contact with patients, should require HepB, MMR, Varicella, and are recommended to get the pertussis one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,198 ✭✭✭✭Donald Trump

    I was a student once.

That is likely merely a scam to keep them in cans and late night kebabs for the next few years.

Satire appreciated. Across the pond my university employer mandated vaccination documentation for all students, faculty, staff, administration, and visitors. No exceptions. Science not politics rules.

Mandate in place for months now. No one can enter campus without docs. No legal actions yet, and no go fund me attempts to collect money.

Suspect the main reason for doing this is more narcism than altruism. Getting plenty of attention and likes. Just googled one of them. She is pro-life(a good thing imho) but she is front and centre attention seeking in everything. Could see her as a TD at some stage
