    They’re unrelated things.

it’s not safe to go out In a storm. It’s very simple.

nothing to do with being “scared”

I am in a status yellow area and the storm was very dangerous, a very small, light branch dropped from a tree on my windscreen and cracked it, a school taxi in local did damage to a fuel pipe from fallen debris on road. Its genuinely dangerous to be out driving in this. I honestly think more schools should have been closed and Im saying this as a mother who is fed up of my kids missing school ...but safety first.

There were no risk assessments because any risk assessment for inland Galway for instance would have concluded there would have been no damaging winds before schools ended today. And by 9am tomorrow it will have passed.

And even then, Ballinasloe and Clifden are 136km apart. No way a risk assessment can be made that applies equally to both

Now Graces, you are an experienced island dweller. I'm sure you keep an eye on the forecasts and public advice, but I'm equally sure that you place more trust in your own experience and instinct. If you stick your nose out the door and there's a good gale blowing, then you'll know you have to battle across the yard to get to a shed, without having the coastguard, Met Eireann, Mayo CoCo or the fire brigade telling you what you can and what you cannot do. You would take responsibility for yourself and make your own decisions on what is safe and what is not safe to do. That is the sum total of what I have said.

Yeah he’s earned his money today. He’s one of the best meteorologists out there in my opinion.

Checking the thread periodically as opposed to stalking the forum like usual because every second post is moaning about what level of warning it or whether the schools should be open or not.

I wish we could set the clock back 6 years on this forum when the discussion was the weather with the odd moan about met eireann as opposed to this.

I miss it. I’m not knowledgeable enough to post in the technical thread but wish all the off topic stuff and over and back about what they should have done could go to a thread in after hours

Oh no. You said more than that. Let's not re write the past.

Much the same here if there isn't a hurricane in people's back yard they say forecasters overreacted. After nearly 50yrs on this earth I treat storms with respect, thankfully the day has passed without any known serious injuries or fatalities. This is as a result of most people paying attention to the warnings. I already commented on school closures earlier today with windows open it would freeze the bollix off you. Some people I think want a return of the hedge schools with their in my day bollixology.

Our school was closed today under the orange warning. We have been down graded to a yellow warning now so the school is open tomorrow (Citywest).

Ye because I look on met Éireann and seen white I was like why is 1 county left out the met office should issue especially for tonight its gonna get gusty in the northwest and that includes western northern Ireland

Same here and don’t want to derail the technical thread by asking what I’m sure are fairly dumb questions for the weather enthusiasts.

Cork city seems to have settled a bit but every time I think we’re coming to the tail end of it there’s a few strong gusts.

Anyone know if University of Limerick is open tomorrow or not?

Picking up a good bit now in North East Galway. There was loads of branches and twigs on roads this morning, some trees were looking alot diagonal, doubt some will last the night

Very wild again in Sligo - a tree came down this morning in the garden and then for most of the day it was flat calm - until now - heavy gusts and lots of rain.

Schools in Donegal closed tomorrow. This is ridiculous. I'll bet Tyrone and Derry will function as normal.

I don't mind closing for red warnings, but this is getting silly.

Seems to be easing a bit here in North Cork alright.

Definitely easing a bit in cork now, still a bit gusty but easing.

winds aren’t too bad here in south Carlow. The worst ( so far) was 6-8 am when the cold front passed over as is often the case.

North Clare has still getting battered now, probably passed the peak from around 6pm but still quite strong.

Apparently kids today can't go to school in some inclement weather. A bit of wind and rain.

It's all got a bit out of control.

Both school & crèche closed tomorrow in Douglas area of cork....

Not everyone has the luxury (it's not a luxury with kids 🤭before I get shot!!!) of working from home. Employer is understanding enough but that's beginning to out live its shelflife.
