Cool but that's a 3 dose regime from the off with well defined intervals. It's not a 2 dose plus whatever you're having yourself regime like this current one.

I think you missed the point completely. First off we would need to staff those ICU beds - we don't have the numbers for properly trained staff, if we just increased the number of beds and call them ICU it would not be the same at all, there is a big difference. A properly fitted out ICU and the fully trained staff is what keeps people alive in an ICU - the staff and equipment is what keeps you alive not just the equipment or vice versa. Secondly we don't have the money to staff and stock all those ICU beds. Thirdly Ireland is not as densely populated as Berlin - Ireland being mostly urban in density. The number of ICU beds could have and should have been doubled 5+ years ago, instead people sit and wait on a trolley most time just for a normal hospital admission. These restrictions are entirely in the realm of necessary, however they should have been implemented months ago as numbers were out of control then! Nightclubs most definitely should not have been aloud to open in the capacity that they did (all at once) - the message there was... 'well most people are vaccinated there is nothing to worry about if you have a certificate' now they're back tracking again because the inevitable of a new unknown means their "numbers" of acceptable loses (as in people) might need to be recalculated. The reason why Berlin has worse restrictions is because it is far more densely populated - I agree the world has gone nuts, in that sense it is mostly not able to critically think about the issue at hand - with the exception of countries that do have a clear role in their leadership, as in have the foresight to see what to do next and how to handle this crisis instead of just winging it off the backs of its people; including deaths, avoidable unemployment with the aid of re-employment in a different role which would be based on an individuals 'other' skillsets and or anticipating what to do, as opposed to learning from mistakes.

I know! It is pretty clear that the outrage of these reintroduced restrictions is based on selfish decisions, people are are venting about themselves when they need to be worrying about other people potentially killing their loved ones which is true with any variant of this, vaccinated or not from family to family. Until more data is known about what way this variant does effect the situation the worst thing you can imagine can be what may happen, on the other hand that potential is only true until it is not just like every logic so cautious awareness is what we can and should be falling back on; that cautious awareness has been completely missing from most of society as of late.

Name another vaccine that requires 2 doses and a booster within 10 months of each other?

Named one and you came back with a load of whataboutery. Its actually a 4 dose vaccine if done via rapid schedule and like the Covid vaccine perfectly safe.

Tbf the issue is we don't know many doses the covid vaccine will be. It's safe after 2 or 3, is it safe after 4,5,6 etc. How many times will we be getting it, how long does each dose last for, are there any long term side effects, how safe is mixing doses of different vaccines (both the ones we have now and the ones not developed yet). Theres a lot unknown, a lot of what we're doing is a large scale human trial here tbh.

You do realise that this is going to result in a huge pay cut for thousands of people ?

I take it you're not one of these people and can't relate to the stress about that.

Words have meanings, which I'm sure you can appreciate. Now, with that little titbit out of the way, I'm sure you'll agree they are not the same. The one you mentioned is a three dose vaccine. We have no idea how many doses are required with amy of the current ones. We are moving on to our third, Israel on to their fourth, etc, etc.

There is a vaccine thread here you can discuss that on. I replied to a poster who asked a question. Not here to discuss with anti-vaxers. Enjoy your night.

If you don't want it don't take it. I wont be coming around to your house trying to jab you. I just answered your original question.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,052 ✭✭✭✭titan18

Ya, I'm not anti Vax at all but there is legitimate questions there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,386 ✭✭✭✭Ha Long Bay

As I said there is a vaccine thread you can ask your questions there. I was just replying to the OP showing that some vaccines do require multiple doses nothing more nothing less.

In practical terms, down to how we lose coronavirus antibodies, it's probably a 3 dose schedule followed by annual boosters, unless we find there's some number that causes the antibodies level to remain high and then whether that's just to attenuate transmission levels or required for serious illness (there it looks like the 2 doses is enough for general population if they don't mind being off sick with it now and again).

And I appreciate that. It's not comparing like with like but I'll leave it there.

No problem at all just think it's important for other readers of the thread to know that some vaccines do require multiple doses to be 100% effective.

    Enjoy your weekend.

Probably not a bad take in all fairness. The danger is that governments panic and start giving another round of boosters for each wave we get. Would be great if the government actually believed in the vaccines though.

It's absolutely shocking such a minimal amount of serious disease can hijack the lives of so many people who still have their lives to live . This country has to grow up and bloody quickly too. There is a level of death that has to be accepted . I'm at an age where I have lost plenty of people I have loved and those people would not have wanted the world to stop and people to not live their lives on account of them living another 6 months . This **** madness has to stop

The first paragraph here made me laugh out loud !

    Such trust in your doctor😁

    Jeez.

Believe it or not, that is not ..the first thing most people would do!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,471 ✭✭✭✭astrofool

They're reacting now to what happened last year and over-correcting (as are all countries in fairness), the mistakes were made back in August when we decided to wait another 8 weeks to open up.

If omicron really is better at reinfecting that leaves the Sinovac/pharm and Valneva vaccines in a tough place, those that target the spike may fair a bit better (pending data).

@ Nu man in town ..Speaking of 'experts '! Hardyn ..

    And Martina 1991 ,

    The Dazzler ,

    Just to mention a few.

But like the guy who said the first thing he'd be doing if he got a diagnosis of terminal cancer was getting a second opinion, I suppose anybody here or anywhere else in the world , that expresses an opinion based on their knowledge or experience , would be ignored or ridiculed , just because it doesn't go along with what the lads on boards think !

Well done, you made up your mind. And I'd say there's a lot of people doing the same.

In what that I said resulted in your conclusion that I give 2 **** about anyone but myself? Specifically what part of the comments gave you that impression?

What makes you think I am not one of 'those people', have I disclosed information about my occupation in this thread or any other threads on boards? That is a rhetorical question and the answer is no.

that’s a very “I’m alright, jack” post. I’m guessing youre not too affected by the restrictions. I think it’s the UK that has it right at this point

I think for some hope, morale and for government finally to show they are in charge, we need heads to roll, or a sacrificial lamb.

Personally, for me, Philip Nolan needs to go. His background is mainly in university administration; he has failed over and over again at producing realistic models, instead constantly opting for mass pessimism leading to restrictions. Generally if you fail and fail and fail again at your job, you’ll be moved aside or moved on.

To call antigen tests snake oil when nearly every other country in the world had adopted them is snide, uneducated and incompetent. That he got into a Twitter spat with a supermarket shows his complete lack of professionalism.

His comments on schools and ventilation during the week were so, so wrong, downright lies, and the warbling of a man who has no basic understanding of ventilation or how viruses spread. This also from the man who believes primary school children don’t have more than 3 close contacts a day, or at least that’s what he remembered from his school days.

Remember the big scare about India and their hospitals?

Most got the virus, the country survived and their cases are now very low.

They didn't try to run and hide from the virus.

Someone needs to offer a different opinion to NHPET.

All they have is run and hide even with 93% fully vaccinated.

    Pathetic shower.

The guy off screen on RTE this evening also said "we are not all in this together"

The woman walking past also said something that wasnt praise. I have to say it was good to hear.

You come on here, which I dont do all that regularly as tbh a lot of the time the condescending cack spouted by some of the posters who haven't lost a pennies wage in this whole debacle but want accolades and thanks, quite frankly boils my p155, and you really wonder? How did we allow certain sectors to get wage after wage, unquestioned irregardless of the quality of their work, their attendance, their bonuses....etc etc? I used to laugh at social welfare threads on here and the claims of "entitlement" (which no doubt there is some of that within it). But the MOST entitled sectors of society have to be, without a shadow of a doubt, the public sector employees and the other sectors who without a doubt are complicit in fueling this covid issue, because they still get paid. Lots of vested interest in keeping this going.

I wasn't even going to bother posting as I now feel, "Whats the point" but maybe if it makes one person think twice, it will be worth it(highly doubt it as its boards but anyway, here goes)

One of my oldest friends started a catering company 6 years ago. When I say "company" it was her and 2 employees after a while, not exactly huge. She was a single mother at the time(working btw)but wanted more. She worked her absolute balls off, and all credit to her. It was a great success. She had a lot of work due to her care and dedication to something that she built with her own two hands, through sleepless nights, 20hr days, time away from her children and sacrifice after sacrifice. Not Range Rover in the garden success, but bills paid on time and no worry if kids need braces type success. You know, normal people success.

Not going to go on much longer but we met up 2 weeks ago for a coffee. She was a shadow of herself. Dramatic weight loss, black circles, thinning hair. The works. She looked broken. We spoke. She told me that any more fear spreading from the powers that be will be the ruin of her. People were cancelling left right and centre(she would do a lot of office spreads etc). Every penny she had made had gone into keeping the business afloat. She was tapped out.

Got a text from her at 6.30 ish this eve. It said "Thats it. They have hammered the last nail in"

    Have rang her. No reply.

    This is the reality
